Ahhhh, your 20’s. A time of learning, fun, self discovery, and an overall good time…or so we all thought. It seems that, lately, people in their 20’s are becoming more stressed, and depressed. That should not be the case. However, it is the case. When you are in your 20’s, you are dealing with entering the dating scene, moving to new cities, debt and whatever else life throws your way. Really, if you think about it, when you are in your early 20’s, you have barely been graduated from high school or out of your parents house. For most of us, we haven’t had to face some of the adversity that full blown adults have. Therefore, it gets hard to cope with everything. I’m here to tell you you aren’t the only one who is feeling that way. There are definitely some things you can do. The first thing is, just be yourself. Who ever that awesome 20 something year old is, be that person and never change for anyone. I know that society has placed some really heavy expectations on our shoulders in our 20’s; however, you’ve gotta learn to just wipe that right off, and be you.
Something else that I think is really important is, if you are struggling, tell someone, talk to someone, see someone. Even if it is just a friend, it makes a world of difference in your attitude and how you are feeling. This one is really important, no one wants to see you hurt, and communication is key. Make sure you always have someone to talk to.
If you are feeling this way in your 20’s, maybe you need to evaluate your life. You probably have done this on a small scale about 1000 times, but this time REALLY do it. Look at every aspect of your life, and ask yourself if you are really doing something that makes you happy, or is going to better your life. If you’re in a situation that isn’t making you absolutely happy, then you are way too young to be living like that, I know, I’m 21 and have had to make these decisions myself. Let me tell you, once you do, you will be so much happier for it.
With all of this said, I know it can be tough to do any of these things. But remember, when you are in your 20’s, you’re just starting your life. Typically, you have limited responsibilities. So if you are not happy with the situation you are in, or you need to talk to someone, or you need to just be yourself, then do it. You will be so much happier you did, and you will start living your 20’s like you’re supposed to.
