Why Jessamyn Stanley Is the New Face of Yoga

The body positivity advocate is making the ancient practice more inclusive.

Thrive Global and The Quaker Oats Company present The Fuel List—20 people changing the way we fuel our minds and bodies every day. These are the leaders making an impact in the worlds of sleep, nutrition, movement and mindfulness right now.

If you follow the body positivity movement, Jessamyn Stanley needs no introduction. The yoga teacher, advocate and author of Every Body Yoga is proving that anyone—regardless of what they look like—can practice yoga and reap the benefits. Stanley personally uses a high energy type of yoga called vinyasa flow to tackle life’s challenges, and her book is a testament to how yoga truly is for everyone. She’s bringing an important conversation around body image to a form of movement where it hasn’t been widely discussed, helping break down barriers for anyone who’s wanted to try yoga but worried it wasn’t meant for them. Her Instagram account (with 336,000 followers and counting) is also full of inspiration and positivity.

“Jessamyn brings a powerful voice to an incredibly important topic: body positivity. Through her practice, she has shown that yoga — and movement in general — is for people of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds.” — Sadira Furlow, Senior Marketing Director of Consumer Engagement, PepsiCo North America Nutrition

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
