Do you know this person? The person that can’t seem to ever turn it off…The person that is always working or thinking about work?

I know it shocks some of you because you couldn’t dream of NOT being able to unplug. But others of you thinking of names and right now. Maybe it’s your partner or spouse a relative or adult child…..

Or maybe it’s YOU. Maybe, you are the one nodding your head and going, oh my god, yes. That is totally ME!

As high-achieving leaders it can be so hard to just let go…to unplug…to step away. You may even dream of doing so. Dream of weekends and vacations and time to yourself.

You might even get THAT time….AND still find yourself checking in with work, sending that text, writing that post, answering that email…

….or STUCK in your thoughts about work like:

“Will I get that promotion… or get passed over”
“….Now that I got the promotion, what if I fail?”
“I’ve achieved so much, “what’s next, will I ever be satisfied?”
“If I unplug, will it all fall apart?”
“Who’s rooting for me and who’s waiting for me to fail?”
“What can I do to really leave my mark in my industry?”
“How will my career be remembered?”
“How can I stop playing it safe and have big ideas again?”
“When do I get to enjoy my life and my career?”

…the list goes on and on.

I used to be this way too. I worked all the time and couldn’t shut it off even when I had time away.

And then this morning…I couldn’t even find my computer. I couldn’t believe it. What an amazing sign of how far I have come and how much I have embodied everything I teach. I had really allowed myself to unplug, so much so, I couldn’t remember where I left my computer. It was fantastic.

That is the dream. Isn’t it?
