Are you planning your next vacation in Waterton? If so, we recommend you to invest quality time and energy at the most amazing activities in Waterton? Here, we have a list of six activities that would make your visit to Waterton one of the most memorable ones!

But First, Why Visit Waterton?

Waterton is one of those vacation spots which captures natural beauty, breathtaking natural scenic mountain views, beautiful emerald green lake, serene ambiance, great food, rustic hotels and motels, hiking trails, horse trails, etc. Waterton is indeed full of surprises and offers everything to an adventurous traveler.

What To Do in Waterton?

You can start your day by hiking at the many trails that the Waterton National Park is known for during the day. Then, get an excellent meal at one of the many popular Waterton restaurants and either stay comfortably at one of the most popular Waterton hotels or camp at the many nearby campsites. Besides that, you can also opt for horseback riding and the wildlife of Waterton.

Now, without further ado, let’s go through in detail about what to do in Waterton.

(1) Hiking in Waterton Park

Crypt Lake, known as one of the top 10 hikes to do in Canada, offers two choices. One passes through forest, whereas the other one is an ascent, which passes through the impressive Hell roaring Falls.

Once you walk through these patches, an open area would be right in front of you. There you will see streams amidst mountains, which leads to the mystic Crypt Falls. Cascading Crypt Falls is approximately 150 meters high.

Trails on these mountainous areas are pretty challenging but are manageable by the tourists. It is because of the secured cables and also short tunnels. This trail, however, ends up in the shores of Crypt Lake.

(2) Camping in Waterton

Camping is yet another activity that adventurous travelers love to do in Waterton Park. You can opt for many campsites area near the beautiful Waterton lake or opt for sites found amidst mountains.

One such place is towards the end of the Waterton town site. It is a decent campground that facilitates walk-in tent services, 45 sites with electricity, and 90 sites with water. Amenities found in the campground include flush toilets, hot showers, barbecue grills, and storage.

The sunset views at this place are to die for. This site is a walking distance to the main town, which allows campers and tourists to shop for basic amenities, food, and other items.

(3) Food and Dining Options in Waterton

Waterton offers foodies many options for food and drinks. There are several casual and formal dining options.

For casual dining, you can opt for Pizza from 49 Degrees North, Sandwiches from the local Subway, or The Glacier Bistro, which also offers Starbucks coffee, cookies, pastries, and desserts, and Tacos from The Taco Bar.

For semi-formal or formal dining, you can go to The Lakeside Chophouse, which offers breathtaking views of the Waterton lakes and is the only restaurant by the Waterton lake, or

The Thirsty Bear Kitchen and Bar for the pub type atmosphere and some fun time with friends.

These are some of the famous Waterton restaurants.

(4) Accommodations at Waterton Hotels

When you start getting tired from daily activities, it would be best to get accommodations at one of the Waterton hotels or motels (if you do not prefer camping) for some downtime and good night’s sleep. Some of the options include The Bayshore Inn Resort & Spa with some rooms overlooking the Waterton lake, The Bear Mountain Motel, and an all-suite hotel called The Waterton Glacier Suites. Each one offers different packages and a set of amenities.

(5) Horseback Riding

An activity that is enjoyed by young and old is “horseback riding.” It is something everyone must try at least once in their life because a ride on a horse in the middle of mountains or by streams and lakes in a national forest is just divine and memorable.

(6) Nature and Wildlife at Waterton

Last but not the least, another natural spot for tourists on the outskirts of Waterton Town site is, Bertha Falls which cascades into Bertha Lake. Both of these spots are majestic and simply breathtaking!

On the way, you will see magnificent wildflowers and unusual flowers called “Bear Grass.” Geraldine Lake is yet another scenic view that has a beautiful path for adventure seekers. If you go up taking the road, you will be able to go for a hike to this lake. Most hikers do not find this hike manageable.

I hope this provides you with an overview of all the options available for you when visiting Waterton.
