Have you ever wondered why some people seem to attract others like magnet while some others can’t stop pushing people away? Some people have this natural ability to attract people while some others have learnt how to pull it off.

Either way, becoming attractive to other people will help anyone gain acceptance fast in a new space. It will even help the person blend faster, win more friends and improve their network and net worth.

But what is the main thing – the magnet of attraction – that makes someone likeable at first sight? What makes some people “click’ pretty fast with other people even with minimal effort?

It is that same behavior that makes us like babies, that makes men adore certain women more than others, that makes us believe in politicians, that makes us like our favorite celebrities even more – a broad smile and the peace, innocence and happiness it transmits.

I have seen this at work many times. Many brilliant people have gone places, won friendships and partnerships, built great businesses, and touched thousands of lives just by smiling! A case I observed keenly albeit recently would be Sean Lourdes, an American entrepreneur and philanthropist.

(L – R: Former USA president, Barrack Obama and Sean Lourdes, entrepreneur and founder of The Lourdes Foundation)

Sean has traveled the world and met many A-list celebrities; from Mel Gibson to Selena Gomez. His exploits would see him come face-to-face with former US presidents Barrack Obama and Bill Clinton. He even managed to bring the Dalai Lama to Los Angeles a few years back.

Through the Sean Lourdes Foundation, he mentors young entrepreneurs as they journey to an exciting life different from the rigorous one entrepreneurs are known to face.

What was his strategy? Sean is really good at spreading happiness and positive vibes, and what better way to do this than through a broad smile as well as a compliment?

Truth is: as a CEO or leader, you will probably get the people under you to do more with a smile on your face and a gentle instruction than with all the tenacity your instituted authority can ever get you. Other this, better bargains are made when either or both parties involved wear a warm smile on their faces. In an interview with TheFrisky a while ago, Sean Lourdes revealed how a smile and a simple act of kindness helped him find favor in the eyes of a monk some years back. So grateful was this monk that he helped Sean arrange a meeting with the Dalai Lama; a meeting which would culminate in a grand event by Sean’s The Lourdes Foundation with the Dalai Lama himself in attendance.

What about sales? Cheerful salesmen are the most efficient salesmen there are across all industries. Smiles work the same wonder when receptionists interact with a company’s prospect over the counter as well.

So share a smile today and see how fast you become a people magnet. . . a magnet that can attract even a former president of the United States or help you win in business and life.

Beyond a Casual Smile

A bright smile and a basic compliment will very likely get someone to like you at first sight. But there is more to attraction than smiles and compliments. If all you do is smile at people, you could come across as creepy. And if you compliment people all the time, you could come across as a flatterer too.

So, an attractive personality involves having some good vibes, character and willingness to spread value. When people get value from you, the power of your attraction on them becomes stronger.
