The advent of home theatres means it’s possible to view your favourite 3D movies right at home. What’s even better is that you get to control the entire experience instead of being at the mercy of the movie theatre.

However, before you can binge-watch the best 3D movies ever made, you will need to add a few things to your home cinema repertoire like those on Wavetrain. Here is what you need and why.

1. You will need a 3D projector or a 3D enabled TV

You might be surprised to know that it’s very difficult to find a good 3D projector these days. Mostly because of the downward trend in footfalls across 3D movie theatres, you can still purchase one through a third-party dealer. It might be easier to add a 3D enabled TV to your entertainment centre. If you can’t find one of those, then go for an OLED TV or a Plasma TV that comes with a 3D setting. Don’t forget to make sure that whatever you buy is compatible with your choice of a Blu-Ray player.

2. Find yourself a 3D enabled Blu-ray player

This is one of the most important things you will need to create a 3D viewing experience in your home. You will also find Ultra HD Blu-ray players that can play 3D enabled Blu-Ray as well as DVDs and CDs. You can find some great 3D Blu-ray disc movies on the market in addition to listings available on Amazon. There is a comprehensive selection on Amazon, so you might want to start your search there.

3. Set up a cable that can capture 3D

Another way to get your hands onto 3D content is to set up a 3D-enabled cable or satellite box. You will also need a subscription that will give you access to several 3D channels. There are cable providers out there who offer 3D services via video-on-demand, so contact your cable operator for more information. If you want to go the satellite route, check out which of your local providers offer 3D.

4. Purchase some good 3D glasses

Different from your regular flimsy 3D glasses provided at the movie theatres, these are sturdy and stylish, resembling a fancy pair of shades. You will find two varieties available, passive, and active. The passive Polarised ones are very comfortable to wear and provide enough space in the front to put over your regular spectacles. Costing between USD $5 to USD $25, you will find both plastic and metal frames. The Active Shutter, on the other hand, is bulkier as they have batteries and a transmitter built into them. These help in syncing the shutters over the eye that move rapidly during viewing. They are slightly more expensive with a starting price of USD $50 but are definitely worth it.

There are hundreds of movies that can be viewed in 3D. So if you get all the equipment, the only thing left is to fill a bucket of popcorn to complete the experience.
