I look out the window and see people walk by,

I want to run out the door to say “Hi.”

But I’m stuck inside because of COVID-19,

Where I’m going crazy and want to scream.

I have cleaned, baked and done my school work,

I looked at Facebook and Tiktok, even saw a bird twerk.

I have dreams every night about COVID-19,

All I want is to have sweetness and beauty in my dream.

Many have died and many more are still ill,

But others don’t care and still go out for a thrill.

Social distancing and flattening the curve are new,

We didn’t hear these phrases, not even with the flu.

I am ready for this to be over and to see friends,

I pray each night that God will bring us an end.

Our new normal will be different at best,

But we will go on because we are truly blessed.

The youth of today will have stories to share,

Their kids will pretend they don’t really care.

But listen they will and lessons they’ll learn,

Because they need to be prepared when it comes their turn.

We missed graduations and weddings and more,

Some canceled vacations and rentals at the shore.

But we will be stronger and wiser than before,

Because we social distanced and the rules did not ignore.
