Do you wake up tired? Do you feel that you lack energy to reach the end of the day? Does it make you a mountain to face certain tasks? The exhaustion is becoming so common in our society that even now has its own acronym: TATT, Tired All the Time (tired all the time). Spring and seasonal changes can aggravate these conditions, as it is at this time when the symptoms of the well-known asthenia appear , which include, among others, fatigue , irritability , appetite and libido alterations, anxiety , headaches or lack of energy.

Tiredness can be an exceptional circumstance, the result of specific situations, such as a pregnancy, a baby that wakes up at night, a time of stress. But when it becomes a habitual state it can be a red flag to which we must heed. There are numerous physical causes that can explain fatigue, such as thyroid disorders, sleep apnea, or anemia. Faced with sustained fatigue over time, it is important to visit the doctor to rule out any disorder. But fatigue also appears in many cases for other reasons.

Tired desperate mother and baby crying

For Curro Cañete, coach and author of The Power of Trust in You, “many people seem to live permanently tired, but let’s think that most of the population is overweight, does not exercise too much and does not take special care of diet “. For Cañete, these are the main thieves of vitality and energy, in addition to our resting habits: “In Spain we have the habit of having dinner late and going to bed late. Which is the opposite of what is recommended to live with health and energy? We abuse coffees and certain stimulants that work for a while, like a patch, but do not solve the basic problem. And it is also true that in some cities, such as Madrid or Barcelona, we have a very fast pace: I have many friends who get up at seven in the morning and do not arrive home until eight in the afternoon. All that takes its toll”.

Despite this, in the opinion of this coach, all these factors are not the main reason for the constant fatigue suffered by so many people: “The fundamental problem is that many people do not have a vision, a vital purpose that makes them get up. Motivated in the mornings. Many people have a job that they do not like, a partner that they are not enthusiastic about, a life that does not fulfill them at all. And when your life does not fill you, you constantly need external stimuli that allow you to get ahead even for a while. These stimuli give you pleasure (drinking alcohol and the famous dot, for example) but then sometimes they lead to greater fatigue. I vote to bet on healthy habits and come to love them”.

Food and stress

Coffee and stimulants is a patch, but they don’t really improve our energy.

Nutrition tips

Who also knows about healthy habits is the nutritionist Carla Zaplana, who advises making some small changes to immediately improve our energy levels, especially in spring:

1. Maintain adequate hydration, one and a half liters of water a day at least.

2. Try substituting your morning coffee for a green juice or smoothie.

3. Add more antioxidants. The vitamin C in strawberries, blueberries or kiwis naturally fights fatigue.

4. Include more green leaves in salads to assist the body’s natural cleansing process of spring.

5. Exercise at least three times a week, to increase levels of serotonin (the hormone of happiness) and improve mood.

6. Have a cup of match latter in the afternoon.
