1. Please tell us about yourself.
I am a Business Administration graduate from International College for Girls, Jaipur and an entrepreneur. I have been working on my own company for over a year now. These days I am investing efforts in coming up with my clothing label. I write. My first book, ‘Illusions of a starry starry night’ has launched across ecommerce platforms and I am waiting for reviews to flood in.
2. Have you always known that you wanted to be a writer? What inspired your debut?
If I was asked this question five years ago, I’d say yes. A writer is all I wanted to become back then. While today I hold a management degree and I am a founder of a firm by profession. Writing was one of my lost dreams which came back to me with Nikhil. He and the relationship I share with him has been the only inspiration that writing occurred to me all over again after my school days. There’s a certain happiness inside of us that can take us back to our lost selves and that’s how I began jotting down my thoughts on paper again.
3. What kind of research do you do, and where do you get ideas from.
Ideas, I believe are always within. One can only write about something they strongly feel needs to be heard. Having said that writing cannot be put into a box. We all need to propel ourselves outward and explore the infinite stories waiting to be penned down. As they say, until you jump off a cliff, You may never know of your wings. So I pick up one idea from within and jump from my cloud of limited thought to start expanding my world around it.
4. How long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
I feel there cannot exist a bound period of time a writer should research for. You need to be able to dive into and build a home in that specific leap of time, space or universe. The moment I understand my subject enough to give it my own shape and texture without corrupting the facts, I am ready to begin. Whereas, some books just happen to you, in a way they could only belong to you. Illusions of a Starry Starry Night are one of such surprises.
5. What is the most difficult part of your artistic process that has challenged you?
Getting burnt out has been the most challenging. Writing is truly a process and me being a novice, I have blacked out and absolutely lost my flow at times. I needed to push myself and keep trying and failing over and over to make the piece sound the way I hoped. Quality of my composition has been always been more essential to me than how quickly I finished writing it. I needed to obsessively continue thinking about it, plan it and scribble it to fight the blankness.
6. Who are some authors in your genre that inspires you?
I cannot confine myself to one particular genre. But if asked about romance novelists, I will always be a Nicholas Sparks fan girl. He has the power to swoon many hearts and completely mesmerise with his words. In other genres, I love ‘Milk and Honey’ by Rupi Kaur and ‘the Princess saves herself in this one’ by Amanda Lovelace. I strive to write something as explosive and as strong as the poems of these women. Also, I love ‘Tales of an Unconscious Mind’ By Nikhil Chandwani. This book promises to take you on a cosmic journey and does exactly that.
7. Take us through your experiences as an author.
In this book we have put together our journey in the form of letters and poetry but of course after facing our own share of difficult odds.
8. What’s coming next for you?
My clothing label is coming up soon which deals with designing and creating women ethnic fashion clothing and We are in the process of building a website for it. Also, I am writing another book on a subject I’ve had personal encounters with. If I could connect with or make a positive influence on any person who reads it, that would fulfil the whole purpose. I wish it turns out to be promising.
9. Can you tell us a bit about the book?
This book is about two individuals and their journey about how they meet and blossom a beautiful relationship. It is a magical course of confessing love in the most unconventional ways of the modern world.
They share their love for nights, express how the stars inclined their paths and pen down every emotion surrounding their Love. This book is a pure story of adoration shaped in a book.
10. Finally, if you could pass on a single piece of advice to authors out there reading this interview, what would it be?
To the young fellow writers and to anyone who has had a dream in the hearts to become a published author, Please continue. Find your Direction and don’t go back. Write about everything that twists your heart and surprises you. Allow stories to inspire you. There’s plethora of them out there waiting to catch your senses. To hell with whatever stops you, be it your schedule or priorities, grammar or plot. I urge you write without abandoning your desk or procrastinating or distracting yourself. And once you do, I promise it will all be worth it and your world will never be the same again.
