Whether you’re traveling to the Bahamas, a cozy beach house in the next town, or a grand adventure to NYC for vacation, if you’re planning on proposing to the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, you need to be prepared.

There are quite a few trending proposals out there today, from flash mob proposals to filming the moment. However, destination proposals seem to be leading the pack, so you need to be sure you’re prepared so that nothing goes wrong with your once in a lifetime proposal. Below, you can find a few of the top tips out there for proposing when you’re on vacation.

Pack the Ring Securely

Now that you have pored over the Diamond Nexus engagement rings and found the perfect one for your spouse-to-be, you want to be doubly sure that the ring gets to your destination without getting lost or damaged. It’s also important to pack the ring in a way that security won’t ruin your surprise at the airport because you never know when they will want to search your luggage. Also, make sure that the ring is in the inside zippered compartment of your bag, that way you don’t risk the chance of losing it when you pull out your headphones or laptop on the plane ride to your destination. The last thing you want is your surprise ruined or to lose the ring before you get to propose.

Safety First

When you’re on vacation, you need to be thinking about safety to begin with, but think about it even more when you’re toting around a diamond ring. It’s best to keep the ring in the safe at the hotel, but only if you’re the only one that is going to be in that safe. It is never a good idea to be walking around with an engagement ring in your pocket in a foreign country. That’s just asking to be robbed or even hurt, so don’t do it.

Always have a Backup Plan in Place

When you’re on vacation, anything that can go wrong often will go wrong. When you’re planning to propose on that vacation, this fear can get even worse. That’s why it’s so important to have a backup plan in place. For example, if you’re planning on proposing on a gorgeous hill at sunset, but it’s pouring rain that day, then you’re in trouble. Everything may work out perfectly, but it’s best to have a backup plan just in case.

Calm Your Nerves

Though people have been proposing to each other since the beginning of time, nerves can get the better of you in a hurry. Remember, if you are considering proposing then there has to be a reason. They love you, you love them, and it will all work out the way it’s supposed to in the end. Planning ahead of time can help with that. You have your ducks in a row, which makes it easier to pop the question when the time comes.

Choose Your Time Wisely

While it may be tempting to whip that engagement ring out in the taxi on the way to dinner, you need to refrain. Nerves and eagerness can make you do things you’ll regret later. Have patience, choose the time of your proposal wisely, and you’ll be rewarded in the end.

These are just a few of the top tips you should follow when planning to propose on vacation. Take your time, plan it well, and it will all work out in the long run when they say yes and your vacation is as perfect as you had planned.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
