5 Ways on How To Avoid A high-Risk Drinking Lifestyle

An idle mind encourages risky thoughts of which getting drunk is one of them

Drink moderately

Heavy alcohol use peaks in emerging adulthood and this is common among college students. This type of lifestyle predicts psychological and emotional problems and there is specific risk associated with this lifestyle.

Heavy alcohol intakes have been associated with negative consequences and behaviors including marijuana use, risky driving, and drug abuse. Although this has not deterred people from engaging in this act. Studies show that people experience memory loss and regret from intoxication while some might be at risk of sexual harassment. Given the extent of the problems associated with this lifestyle, it is important to educate everyone on ways you can avoid heavy alcohol intake. Here are some tips;

Get busy

An idle mind encourages risky thoughts of which getting drunk is one of them. For instance, I already have the whole year planned out on my calendar and I know what I will be doing every day. I love what I do, and I do create time to rest but there so much at stake that heavy drinking cannot be accommodated. One of the magic for staying of heavy drinking is the mindfulness of your body fitness. I am always at the gym 3 times weekly and I am not ready to allow myself look ridiculous. Get busy with your life and don’t create room for wrong lifestyle choices.

Regular checks

You don’t have to wait until you start abusing the use of alcohol before you visit your local Alcohol treatment center. The abuse of alcohol is not instantaneous, it is a gradual occurrence and before you know it, it becomes too late. Just like you visit your physician for a health checkup, take time to visit a treatment center to check if your alcohol intake is within the normal range. However, if you have already crossed the borderline then don’t cringe at the sound of alcohol treatment center because that is the fastest way to total recovery. One of good thing about these centers is the people you meet and sometimes this relationship can help you stay in check.

Discipline

There is always a limit to everything and once you go over that borderline you put yourself at risk. The only human being can control their urge and avoid going over the edge is through self-discipline. I have always loved vanilla ice cream, so delicious! But as I grew older I could not finish a cup of vanilla ice cream without having a stomach ache. I have learned to control myself and how much of it I consume. The same applies to alcohol. There is a threshold where alcohol consumption becomes an abuse, and this varies with everybody. There is no need to compete with others, you know your limit, so don’t exceed it.

Understand the risk

It is not wise to wait until we find ourselves thumbing up and down in a car driven by a drunk driver before we can grasp the level of risk involved in excessive drinking. On the other hand, if you are clever enough to avoid drinking and driving what of the risk to your health and emotional well-being. Health-wise, modest drinking reduces the risk of health problems such as cancer, liver disease, sleep problems, low immunity, complications of existing conditions, and so much more! It also reduces the risk of depression and social problems.

Be accountable to someone

When I had my son a few years back I knew it was time to quit drinking. It was a sober moment but that was the decision I had to make. I wanted to be responsible for someone and my son was the person. You need to find someone that puts you in check, that reminds you of why you must stop drinking heavily. In the heat of the moment, it is possible to forget yourself, but you cannot trade who you love for heavy drinking.
