I’m a procrastinator by heart, so in order to make sure I get everything done — I force myself into a routine.

I always wake up at the same time and stand in the same spot on the subway platform — to ensure I take the quickest route. These little things help make my day more productive.

Yes – getting to know where the doors are going to stop on the platform only saves me one minute or so everyday. But it makes me feel like my commute is going faster. Which puts me in a good mood and helps to kick start my day.

Here are some other little ways you can ensure you’ll have a productive day:

Make Your Bed – I know, I know I sound like your Mom. But taking a few minutes in the morning to make your bed look nice doesn’t just give you that feel- good, post clean up feeling. It gives you something to look forward to coming home to! And it’s the first thing you can check off your to-do list for the day – getting your momentum going.

Make a List – Obviously I think writing a list will make you more productive! A study finds writing something down will make you 33 percent more likely to do it. So why not get your to-do’s going with an extra little push? Crossing off tasks makes you feel more accomplished and stops you from getting those afternoon blues where you wonder ‘what have I done today?’

Don’t Push Snooze – I simply cannot stand to lie in bed and hit the snooze button over and over again – I get too restless! I know for some people it’s a daily occurrence. By pushing snooze every five minutes you’re not actually getting any ‘proper’ sleep — meaning you start your day off all groggy. Better to just sleep in for a extra fifteen minutes and get up the first time your alarm goes off.

Drink Matcha Tea – I love matcha tea! It’s like green tea – only better! matcha tea contains a unique, potent class of antioxidant known as catechins, which are known for their cancer fighting properties. The process of making tea is very relaxing, plus the small caffeine boost and rush of antioxidants will give you that extra bit of energy. Plus the ritual of making matcha is unlike anything else. Check out this video I produced about it.
