10 Easy Ways to Be Healthier

1 – Meditate daily. Do a 10 to 15 minute guided meditation every day. This is amazing for mental health as it helps to bring peace, calm and clarity to your mind.

2- Eat fresh greens every day. Add a huge bowl of lettuce (and any other greens you fancy) to one of your meals every day.

3 – Eat enough protein every day. Aim for 0.8 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight a day (a general rule of thumb aim for at least 100 grams of protein a day). Example protein foods: plant-based protein powder, chia seeds, flaxseeds, chickpeas, lentils, beans, peanut butter, tahini and almonds.

4 – Eat carbs and fats. Get comfortable with eating these foods too without the guilt and shame. Veggies and protein are great, but so are dense carbs and yummy healthy fats. It is ok to eat them everyday. Enjoy pasta (chickpea pasta is amazing!), sweet potatoes, white potatoes, rice, quinoa, fruit, peanut butter, dark chocolate, coconut yoghurt, tahini, seeds and nuts.

5 – Move your body daily. Aim to exercise for 30 to 60 minutes. Some days that might be a gentle walk, other days yoga, dancing, cycling, swimming, running, or lifting weights. Do something you enjoy and make it a regular part of your life.

6 – Rest. Allow yourself to rest. Exercise is fantastic, but also give yourself a couple of days to do nothing, or just do a very gentle form of exercise such as stretching or walking. Take an afternoon nap if you fancy. Have a slow morning. Go to bed early. Have days with zero plans.

7 – Love. Open your heart, be vulnerable and allow yourself to let go. Love yourself. Love your family. Love your friends. Love life. Give yourself permission to let go of fear and feel the love in your life.

8 – Gratitude. Everyday write down what you are grateful for in your life. Have a journal or little notebook for this exercise. Write a sentence or a few words and make this a regular part of your life. It can be small things or big things in your life. One day you might be feeling grateful for your arms and legs, other days your wild quirky personality, or your child’s smile, the blue sky, the bright beautiful moon, delicious food or your husband’s strong arms as you cuddle him. Whatever it is notice it and write it down.

9 – Get out. Make a conscious effort to get out of the house. If you’re a stay at home mum this is even more important to keep your mental health in check. Whether on your own, with your kids, as a family, with friends, whatever the given day, get out of the house. Go for a walk, to the park, to a cafe for a cup of tea, window shopping, swimming, a catch up with friends, a stroll around your hometown, just get out of the same four walls and see life around you.

10 – Be you. Most of all, allow yourself to shine. Be you. Love you. Enjoy you. Embrace you. You are the most important person in your whole world. You deserve to be healthy, happy and in love with your life. Let yourself be you. Let go of all the control. Allow yourself to receive love and help. Surrender to the flow of your life. Laugh. Love.
