It seems like busy is a badge of honour we wear with pride these days. “How’s your week been?” Busy. “How’s work?” Busy. “How’s life?” Busy, but that’s a good thing… right? WRONG.
I’ve come to realise that busy doesn’t make us good or better and it doesn’t always translate into significance, although it certainly does give us a false sense of purpose as we exert ourselves on a never ending to-do list.
There are definitely times that require more of us – maybe you’re planning a busy event, setting up an online course or just trying to give your business an extra push. Just remember that after a big push like that you must take some time out to rest to avoid burnout.
Busy was a constant pace of life for me and I’m sure it is for you. I spent 30 years running businesses and have coached thousands of people. I was also a single mum for 8 years all whilst running my own business. I get it. I’ve been there – so there in fact, it make me lose my hair. That was when I had my light bulb moment. It shouldn’t be like this… Being an entrepreneur should be empowering, not soul-destroyingly stressful!
Within all of us, I know to my bones that there’s a desire to live a life of significance. Constant busyness can often be a front for that. Are we trying to fool other people that we’re living an important life? Or are we just trying to fool ourselves? That’s why we must always re-assess what we do and why we do it. This requires stopping to think for a second. For me, I want to help busy women build the life and business of their dreams. That’s what I try to focus on in the business endeavors I pursue. Whatever your motive is, keep it in mind when you have a mountain of jobs piling up.
