When you have the opportunity to ask some of the most interesting people in the world about their lives, sometimes the most fascinating answers come from the simplest questions. The Thrive Questionnaire is an ongoing series that gives an intimate look inside the lives of some of the world’s most successful people.

Thrive Global: What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?
Paul Jones: Go work out!

TG: What gives you energy?
PJ: Recreational time in the woods.

TG: Tell us about your relationship with your phone. Does it sleep with you?
PJ: I can’t stand the phone and try to stay away from it.

TG: How do you deal with email?
PJ: I am obsessive about keeping current. Someday we’ll all look back and wonder why we were slaves to it.

TG: You unexpectedly find 15 minutes in your day, what do you do with it?
PJ: Dream about the woods.

TG: When was the last time you felt burned out?
PJ: Generally at Christmas time. When it is over is one of the happiest days of the year for me.

TG: Share a quote that gives you strength when times are tough.
PJ: The credit belongs to the man in the arena, whose fast is marred by dust and sweat and blood.
