It’s time to put down your phone and look up. Friday, March 9 is National Day of Unplugging, a 24-hour global event aimed at helping people disconnecting from technology. Over 112,000 people have joined the movement, and many “unplugging events” are popping up all around the world to offer technology-free activities for the day.

We often go about our days with our eyes glued to our screens and miss out on what’s happening all around us. The average U.S. smartphone user touches their phone 2,617 times a day, according to the research firm Dscout. Furthermore, the people who reported the highest stress levels were those who checked their phones even on their days off.

Creating a healthy relationship with your devices starts with setting boundaries with them. Watch this video to learn 6 microsteps that will help you take a break from your phone — and connect with yourself, others and the world around you.
