1. Ms. Shiny Unsal tell us about your most important lesson you learned as a woman entrepreneur?
The most important lesson I learned as a woman entrepreneur is to play my business game with a “student” approach and always keep learning, keep asking questions and keep growing. Education is one of my core values that I bring all the way from my childhood, such as being the valedictorian in my field, studying at the best university in Turkey with scholarship, having UCLA and Harvard Business School in my educational background, learning from the best in the world such as Tony Robbins, Richard Bandler and Brendon Burchard, etc. Now I can see how being a “student of life” and having that growth mindset helped me up my game as an entrepreneur. That’s why I am a firm believer in giving and receiving education. And that’s why I invite everyone, especially entrepreneurs, to value education even more than they currently do and invest heavily on their growth experiences.
I never thought of myself as a “Woman” Entrepreneur by the way, I was an entrepreneur, who was on fire with the mission to push humanity forward and a vision to create a shinier and happier world. And I was willing to take big risks and invest heavily for my education and growth to keep that fire alive inside of me. That’s what worked: investing in my education and in my overall growth experiences.
2. Ms. Shiny Unsal how does it feel to be awarded as the 2018 Global Woman Entrepreneur? Tell us about your journey to the top?
It does feel fantastic, amazing, epic and also empowering! It all began with a phone call I received from Veronica Tan. She is known as “the Queen of Success Resources” since she promotes Tony Robbins globally together with her husband Richard Tan; and as the “Queen of women empowerment” since she absolutely and wholeheartedly empowers women of all ages and ethnicities all over the world. And in that phone call she asked me if I can go to New York on July 14–15 and she said she was planning to nominate me for a global award. My heart was pounding when I heard the words: “global award nomination”. And I immediately felt like I won my award! Because, out of all the women she knows in the world (Success Resources organizes more than 500 events a year) from her global network, she chose me to nominate for such an amazing award! There I felt empowered already. With that phone call I felt like I was the winner of the Queen’s heart already… And I was already so grateful for this nomination.
I knew that thousands of powerful women were nominated for this award and the Global Woman organization was going to make a shortlist of 6 finalists. When I received the email as an official finalist, I was on fire! And I needed to prove her that she made a great choice by nominating me out of thousands of other women she knew. So I created a video campaign, asking for votes from my home country, Turkey, that went viral and reached 20,000 views in a week! I got amazing support, from media, from influencers, from journalists, from childhood friends that I never heard up until then, etc. The result: I received thousands of votes. And I not only won the award but also broke the record of collecting the most votes ever for Global Woman Awards! And that feels, pretty #galactic in my language 🙂
3. Ms. Shiny Unsal how do you keep balance with your fully occupied schedule?
My answer has this formula: clarity + strategy = result. I teach this formula in my trainings. It means that in my very busy schedule I know exactly what I am doing and why. I am clear. I know “when” I need to do it and commit to getting it done. Again, clarity is an important value for me. I also strategize my actions, create goals and make plans with a big vision that I call #galactic in my language again 🙂 Because strategy is important for me. So the key is knowing your values, what’s really important for you and implementing it in life. I spend hours and go very deep with my clients about their values. And this is how it shows up in my life.
To sum it up, we all have 24 hours and when we truly want something, we make it “important” for us and that’s also how I keep my balance with my fully occupied schedule of my dream life: by focusing on what’s important.
