Your Cheer Squad To Victory!

A Lesson Learned from the African Cup Of Nations 2019, the Cameroonian National Team's Fans, and the Victory of Showing Up After A Loss!

Coming into the 2019 African Cup of Nations Championships, in Cairo, Egypt, the Cameroonian lions (and their supportive lionesses) faced a reckoning. Entering into Cairo, Egypt, one would say that the odds did not work in one’s favor. Having lost the opportunity to host this year’s 2019 African Cup of Nations, it wouldn’t have been too far off to articulate that a foundation had been shaken. There was much to make up for. Cameroon’s reputation had to be re-deemed. Even after one loss, there was still a representation that had to be made.

Of course entering into the nation of Egypt, through Cairo, was an awakening. It was part of the morale of dusting your shoulders off. For two nights, members of the Cameroonian community in Cairo, Egypt waited for the arrival of the lions (and a few lionesses) of Cameroon. Dressed in the colors of their nation, sound devices in hand, and chants of praise and appreciation was felt throughout the spacing. Cameroonian fans (or loyal cheerleaders) ensured for their team to understand, that despite a previous unsuccessful endeavor, they still had a job to do!

One by one, as Cameroonian players entered into the welcome view, there was the reckoning of overcoming. Much of it was part of the love they received from their very own. Because, that is all it really takes. Having your cheer squad near you in order to get you through those difficult times, is a vital tool. It didn’t matter that Cameroon missed out on an opportunity to host this year’s African Cup of Nations! What did matter was that. . .they were here. The lions and lionesses had arrived!

Who can ever feel down when you know that you have a cheering squad in your corner? It’s phenomenal, is it not? Seeing the videos and excitement of love for one’s national team. One couldn’t escape the smiles and looks of surprise from the visiting Cameroonian lions and supportive lionesses! That familiarity in a foreign land. Yet, that feeling of appreciation, and much needed supportive energy that any team would need-heading into a major world championship.

Its a phenomenon to say the least! The magic for the human Spirit to re-claim one’s purpose, even after a supposed failure, is truly exhilarating! If a welcome party wasn’t enough, then the vivacious energy (through the cheers and shouts of Cameroonian fans at Ismalia Stadium) was enough validation for the visiting Cameroonian lions to know that they are worthy and deserving of redemption. The first game against Guinea-Bisseau proved that with patience, comes victory! When you fail, you are forced to re-deem oneself. And to show up even in the midst of recent failure, means that one has already won. The deal is even sweeter if you manage to come on top during your first game.

Going into their match against Ghana, Cameroon’s lions push forward in their pursuit of victory. And present again, is a cheering squad. Its all part of the process of what it means in life to win! Cameroonians continue to show up to support their team. Confident that final victory is near! The cheering fans, who dress in the colors of their nation; and make it very clear that Cameroon is in the building. Just seeing the colors and flag of Cameroon gliding through the stadium. A river of yellows, greens, and reds floating or rising as the sound of that nation rings out through her people. To show up, even if it means a bad deal happened before. To show up and represent even if loss happened before the game took place. You still press on.

There is a lot to be learned from Cameroon’s national men’s football team, and their performance (and entrance) at the current 2019 African Cup of Nations in Cairo, Egypt. That work of being a team player, showing up, with one’s support team in place, is all part of the process. Moving to the final victory!

The Cameroonian men’s soccer team have shown up for work. Despite missing the opportunity of also hosting the company party, they still came to work. With any career, at any job, it always pays to have your cheer-leading squad! You know. That group that encourages you, despite any previous failure. They greet you when you arrive to work. Waiting on you and being patient; even if you are delayed in your arrival for the job. They wait for you because they know that you are worth that wait. They see your potential, your talents. They know you are a champion, and that you have been a champion, before. You are talented, hardworking, and showed up. Putting all failures and embarrassments of the past behind you. Because you know you have a job to do. You are aware of your capabilities and your desire to win. Through your doubts, your fears, and even your hesitations, your cheer squad is always there to lead you on. Those loyal fans, who are the reason for why you show up to work to begin with. Its one of the very foundations of success on the job. Your cheer squad!

So, we enter into our work spaces ,our career paths, and career goals. We accept those cheerleaders who continue to stay by our side. Those devoted and loyal fans who show up for us. They know we are going to represent for them.

The presence of Cameroonians, awaiting for their team’s arrival in Cairo, are symbolic of our own career support team. Without them we don’t have the energy to navigate foreign and unfamiliar territory in our career goals. We, literally, burn out! Or fade away.

So, as you walk into unfamiliar territory (having dealt with the loss of an opportunity), pursuing a victory in your career goals-do you see your cheer squad, nearby?
