“I think in all the advice from the incredibly successful, amazing people I’ve had the honor to meet and learn from, the common thread in our journeys is absolute, unwavering perseverance. You can’t have plan A, B, and C. You make plan A, and you stick that vision no matter what obstacles come your way. Never give up, never slow down, and never let yourself become derailed from your mission. I’ve encountered every road block you can imagine including bankruptcy, having employees and partners turn on me, and audit after audit. Quitting was never an option. My mission won’t end, because this is what I’m meant to do.”

I had the pleasure to interview Ashely Black, Inventor, #1 National Best-selling Author, and Fasciology expert

Thank you for joining us! What is your “backstory”?

I was born in a small town in Alabama and was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA), which would come in waves of debilitating pain throughout my childhood. I spent most of my life in and out of doctor’s offices, and I began experimenting with methods of self-massaging, hot and cold therapy, stretching, and healing and recovery at a very young age.

Life as I knew it came to a screeching halt when I contracted a deadly bone infection that 93% of people die from. After months of excruciating pain, I was released from the hospital with a prognosis of a life of disability and pain management drugs.

Refusing to accept my fate, I decided to take my health trajectory back into my own hands, and began studying multiple forms of alternative medicine to find solutions for my body. I discovered how fascia affects every aspect of the human body and later developed a fusion of soft tissue therapy, fascia stretching, body mechanics, and core activation techniques to help others like me who were left without solutions.

My methods soon caught the attention of pro athletes, celebrities, and world leaders who relied on my treatments to help them recovery from injuries, get them ready for the red carpet, and take their performance to a new level.

In order to help even more people and bring these solutions to the masses, I invented the FasciaBlaster tools — a line of self-treatment fascia tools that have become an internet sensation used my millions around the world to treat and manage their pain, improve their athletic performance, enhance their aesthetics, and even reduce cellulite. My following exploded as users became ecstatic with their life-changing results, and we are now one of the fastest growing companies.

Why did you found your company?

I set out to change the entire health and beauty industries by introducing and positioning myself as an expert in fascia. The FasciaBlaster was a vehicle that I knew would bring the concept of fascia to the masses so I could position myself as a world thought leader.

What is it about the work you’re doing that’s disruptive?

If you understand fascia, you’ll know why taking really good care of your fascia is vital to your health and performance. People will be able to cancel surgeries, get off of medications, avoid injuries and degeneration, and take a completely new approach to health, beauty, and pain management. Fascia is such a gamer changer and disrupts so many industries in such a big way that it will soon become its own industry.

We all need a little help along the journey — who have been some of your mentors?

I intentionally moved to LA to surround myself with people I could learn from who had launched successful businesses and were changing the world. Even though they weren’t technically mentors, I was able to absorb the knowledge of my clients who ranged from some of the biggest Academy Award winners, hedge fund managers, billionaires, and global thought leaders. I would get to know them and help them with their bodies in such a dramatic way that they were more than happy to give me the face time I needed to discuss my business plans.

How are you going to shake things up next?

Among other things, we’re launching distribution in 4 new countries in the next 6 months, and we’ll start targeting men and athletes who can benefit from the improved health and performance. We’ll also be expanding our education on solutions to common health conditions. Additionally, I’ve patented some pretty mind-blowing devices that will soon launch in the beauty realm.

Can you share 3 of the best words of advice you’ve gotten along your journey? Please give a story or example for each.

1. Your business will work best if you are aligned with your purpose.

Every life event I’ve ever had led me here and positioned me to do what I’m doing, but I don’t think that would have happened if I didn’t feel it was my place in the universe to bring fascia to the world. Others have tried it, but I took that responsibility on my shoulders as my destiny given to me by a higher power to create this legacy.

2. Be authentic

I couldn’t have contrived this, I don’t think it could have happened any other way. The reason the FasciaBlaster tools, the users, and the movement have exploded is because it’s real and it all comes from a place of me being exactly who I am.

3. Persevere

I think in all the advice from the incredibly successful, amazing people I’ve had the honor to meet and learn from, the common thread in our journeys is absolute, unwavering perseverance.

My mission won’t end, because this is what I’m meant to do.

Not only did I have to successfully create a new product, I’ve had to create a new industry — which very few people have been effective at while making a profit.

There’s a documentary on the History Channel called “The Men Who Built America” that features people like Roosevelt, J.P. Morgan, and Rockefeller that I’ve seen over and over.

I’ve been so inspired by the odds they’ve had to face, and I relate to many of their struggles.

They had to create a new industry, create the market demand, and do something no one’s ever done.

Some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might see this

I would absolutely choose Elon Musk. There are so many characteristics I love about him, two of them being that I love people who invent and create their own genre — which I’ve definitely had to do — and I love people who are willing to take risks.

I really admire what he’s accomplished and what he’s doing. He’s not out to just create new technologies and clean energy; he’s out to change the world. It’s no small task!

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
