Let your mind become as empty as a cloudless sky,
And as calm as the surface of a lake ,
Until your depths are rich with stillness ,
And the channel is wide and clear enough,
For the secrets to flow through
And reveal themselves to you. – Steve Taylor
As we begin the week, take a moment to close your eyes and remember the last time you were surprised.
- What was it like?
- How did you feel?
- Who was with you?
- What else happened?
- Would you want this to happen again?
Hold on to that thought, while we step into Tuesday shifting the morning blues from Monday. Sometimes I feel those lurking feelings in the pit of the stomach when I reflect on my life asking, “How am I making a difference to my life? Is it worth it? Or is the joke really on me?” You can easily spot the symptoms which knock your door on Sunday night, the dreadful feeling that something bad is about to happen. You are a lazy person. You keep putting things off. You don’t deserve it.
But it was different this time, I knew something had to be re-aligned. I started confronting myself by asking some tough questions to get a hard look at myself. I looked at my journey in life so far. The challenges I overcame, the way I stood firm on some of my decisions. It gave me mixed emotions.
I realized that I was out of alignment with my values, being part of the tribe that was into the illusion of time management while they wasted time by being deceptive. And another tribe that was into “being Charismatic”, to an extent where they lied through their teeth to get anything they wanted.
I knew this had to stop at one point, and that point is NOW. But what do I want, if not this? It is much easier to know what or who you don’t want, than to know what or who you do want in life.
“Find your Voice, and inspire other to find theirs”, your strength lies in differences and diversity. Most of the times we are taught to rationalize and put our priorities on the pedestal. When we have a crystal clear view of our most important priorities we become more organized and effective. It is always wise to have imaginations, to outlive your baggage you are carrying around throughout your life.
How do you do this?
Start by answering some tough questions the way I did:
- What do you want?
- What would you not settle for?
- How will you know when you have reached it?
- What would it look like? Feel like? Smell like?
- What actions are you committed to take? When will you do that?
- How will you review? How often?
- Will you be able to find your lost love by doing this and following through every single day?
Your story is always there, all you need to do is remind yourself of who you are and try to recall that sense of self. Look at the path you have come, look at how far you have come in your journey and feel proud as you remember the way you overcame people who doubted you, double crossed you and who slighted you.
“How will you know how strong you are unless your strength is tested ?” – Steve Taylor
