Believe in yourself. We are attracted to people who are happy, excited, inspired. The more I’m around them, the more inspired I feel. So I’d say keep facing that direction. You’re doing great! You’re amazing!! And thank you for doing all you’re doing!!

I had the pleasure of interviewing Shannon Grinnell, an award-winning Filmmaker and experienced TV Producer who has produced television commercials, nationally broadcast TV shows and Independent Films in Toronto and Los Angeles. She started the Speaking of Crypto podcast because she’s a huge believer in Bitcoin, crypto and blockchain technology and her goal is to inform and inspire others looking to understand and benefit from the New Internet.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you share with us the story of how you decided to pursue this career path? What lessons can others learn from your story?

Podcasts have changed my life. Inspired by Rich Roll, I became vegan and ran a marathon. Inspired by Pat Flynn and John Lee Dumas, I started my own podcast. Inspired by one conversation — Naval Ravikant on the James Altucher Show, I bought my first Bitcoin and started my podcast on Bitcoin, crypto and blockchain technology. Podcasts are proof of the renaissance of the in-depth conversation. After years of limited character posts, comments, likes and texts we crave deeper conversations, community and connection. Podcasts help us feel connected and can help us find where we belong.

Can you tell me about the most interesting projects you are working on now?

I record the Speaking of Crypto podcast weekly. I’m now recording these interviews in person as well. I’m also working on a documentary called The New Internet, showcasing the way the internet is changing from the internet of information to the internet of value, of money, of power.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

There are some incredible people who work in blockchain. It’s a tribe of inspired, collaborative, forward thinking leaders. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s been on the podcast. Because of these incredible humans, I’m able to learn and grow and share their inspiring stories with the world. One guest in particular, Sandra Ro, CEO of the Global Blockchain Business Council is someone I interviewed early on. I was honoured to be able to talk to her. And yet she thanked ME for producing my podcast. That really meant the world to me.

What are the 5 things that most excite you about blockchain and crypto? Why?

  1. Bitcoin is global currency with no borders, no politics, no government, no bias.

2. Bitcoin is immutable, unchangeable, unhackable.

3. The supply of Bitcoin is limited so it’s value is limitless.

4. Blockchain technology will protect data privacy where the old internet did not.

5. Blockchain technology will create financial access that the old internet did not.

What are the 5 things worry you about blockchain and crypto? Why?

Worrying is just a sign someone’s heading in the wrong direction. If someone’s worried, I would say, look the other way. Find something inspiring, exciting, motivating.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world? Can you share a story?

I’m inspired by Crypto Twitter and the community of podcasters I’ve ‘met’ online through Facebook. We’re all in this world together. I think the more we thank, promote, encourage, support other link-minded people, businesses, projects the better so I’ve started a “Weekly Shoutouts” page on the Speaking of Crypto website. I’m working on a “How to Make Money on the New Internet” page. And I am doing my damndest to make helpful and inspiring content for the Speaking of Crypto podcast and the New Internet documentary.

As you know there are not that many women in your industry. Can you share 3 things that you would you advise to other women in the blockchain space to thrive?

Believe in yourself. We are attracted to people who are happy, excited, inspired. The more I’m around them, the more inspired I feel. So I’d say keep facing that direction. You’re doing great! You’re amazing!! And thank you for doing all you’re doing!!

Can you advise what is needed to engage more women into the blockchain industry?

I think we need to make being smart, strong and successful — cool, desirable, and beautiful. Society puts a lot of focus on young girls being pretty or likeable or good communicators and not as much on being smart, strong and successful. There are a lot of women in this industry that are smart, strong and successful and I think that’s cool, desirable and beautiful. Thank you for including them in your article because the more we see smart, strong and successful women highlighted like this, the more it becomes cool, desirable and beautiful.

What is your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that had relevance to your own life?

“When you’re going through hell, keep going” — Winston Churchill I was going through I really difficult time in my life. I’d moved outside of the city to start a new job in a new career and I was raising two little boys on my own. I was so overwhelmed I used to say I thought I was going to spontaneously combust. This quote helped me keep going. I knew there’d be an end to that time, and there was. Sometimes all we can do is “keep going”.

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

I was interviewing Mann Matharu on the podcast. He told me that he doesn’t believe in competition. I’d never said something like that out loud before, but I realized that I don’t believe in competition either. I’m a creator, not a competitor! 🙂 I think we’re all here to be the best version of ourselves. And the more we do that, the more we fill the world with the best people. We’re all different. We’re all valuable. We all have so much to contribute. Let’s champion each other to create our best self, our best projects, our best life.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
