An authentic insight into Michael Nabati’s story

Michael Nabati began in the mortgage industry around 2010 at the absolute rock bottom of the great recession. Times were tough back then and homeowners had a tough time getting qualified to lower their payments and save their homes. As the more, he began to connect with people, he came to realize this was his life’s calling. Michael told me he loved helping people. It made him feel like a fish in the water. From an early age, it was always in his nature.

1. Humble Beginnings

Q: How did you get started and what or who inspired and empowered you to?

After working as an independent affiliate under different attorneys
and brokers I decided to start my own company with MostCap. MostCap is a direct result of the various needs and services I’ve been able to provide over the years all under one roof. It is an understatement when we say we offer the most Capital Services. We do Commercial and Residential refinance, Construction (home improvement), and Realty just to name a few.

Growing up in a small town in Long Island, New York the teachers
taught us California was a, “Golden State” and how the Pacific Ocean
received its name for how calm and tranquil it was.  When my family
moved to Los Angeles I came to fall in love with California. It offered the cleanest air, the healthiest lifestyle, sunshine and steady weather. To me, the hills were lined with gold. In every Avocado
tree. In every patch of purple flowers on the side of the busy
freeways. The power of the Golden State was in its beautiful nature.
You could see how every year, year after year, more and more people would hear of its charm and make the move. As time has gone by the population has increased and real estate values have gone higher. Real estate in California to me is better than gold, its Heaven on Earth.

Q: What unique and creative strategies if any did you use when you were first getting started?

Technology has always been my mana from heaven. Without it, I would cease to exist in such a busy space. Technology has allowed the business to grow both vertically and horizontally. Wisdom and
experience are also a huge key. After spending nearly a decade in the industry I’ve learned the core principles to being successful, many times the hard way, which are: Organization, Excellent Customer Service, and a nod to holding a standard to the Highest, The Lord, who deserves all praise. Amen.

2. Mindset

Q: What mindset distinguished you from others who were doing the same thing? How did you develop it?

My mindset has always been to serve the customer. From my formative years in the industry, I learned from my managers a core ethos I take with me today. Many are ingrained in my mind permanently. I recall with fond memories one of my mentors teaching me to say a prayer before starting work, a mantra;  “Dear Lord please place in my path whoever needs my help and I will do my best to serve them”.  “Michael you are not allowed to have even one complaint. No complaints. You must treat every client’s home like it’s your own home”. These are the core principles that drive me to this day.

3. What is your definition of success?

Success is MostCap becoming the biggest mortgage company in
California. I have always placed the biggest emphasis on customer
service and making sure my clients are happy. The challenge, in my
mind, is how to scale the company large enough to become the biggest while still maintaining that core ethos of accountability and customer service.

4. Failure

Q: What do you think is the main reason why some people face failure when going after their vision?

Failure would be to limit ourselves to a small boutique that only
serves a limited amount of people who know us. We want to reach as
many people as we can in California. Even Nationwide. Who knows what the future holds? Worldwide?

5. What is the best piece of advice you have received or came across and would like to share with everyone?

Some people fail to go after their vision because they aren’t fully
invested. Time is short. The best advice I ever received was, “Time is
the most precious commodity that you will never get back”. In the old country, they said, “The world only last 2 days!”. My message to anyone who ever failed at anything is to understand the power of the mind and willpower. To strive every day to achieve excellence. My grandfather, may the Lord bless his soul, would always preach to me, “Do not put off the work of today for tomorrow if you want to become successful”.
