It’s September and that means back to school and the panic I still feel that the binders I have aren’t cool enough. And it’s been a LONG time since I was in school..
This is the time of year when you start to get back on track with everything and you get back into a routine. To me, this is the best time to get started on making healthy changes in your life, or if you’ve had one too many strawberry margarita’s this summer, back into it.
Instead of waiting until January let me know show you how September and the fall can be the real New Year
Right now we seem to be experiencing a second summer as we head into the fall. You can take advantage of this to keep getting outdoors to be active and fit. The sun is still shining and there’s more motivation to keep moving as opposed to January where you may be potentially snowed in. The prospect of having to face an ice storm to get to the gym can leave you wanting to stay on the couch all day watching The Princess Bride on repeat.
So make use of this great weather and get outside to walk, hike, bike, run sprints in the park or anything you like to do!
As you are now getting back into schedules and routines this is when you find more recreational activities available and this is a good time join one. If you were looking into getting into any team based sports you are more likely to find pickup basketball, co-ed volleyball leagues, fitness classes, running groups and all sorts of activities. It’s a good way to get social and active to take control of your health and wellness.
Gyms and yoga studios also start to get back into regular schedules making the ability to find consistent classes a lot easier.
*Insert pumpkin spice based joke here. Honestly though, if you’re a foodie this time of year is like Christmas as so much amazing produce becomes available and it’s honestly not going to break the bank. Corn, squash, apples and a lot of great seasonal things are more plentiful and eating local and seasonal is an amazing thing for your overall health.
Again, instead of waiting for the New Year to make diet and nutrition changes the time to start is now and it’s made so much the easier with so much great food available. So start looking for farmers markets in your area or even just roadside stands which will be popping up everywhere.
A cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind. So my empty space leads me to.. don’t answer that.
This comes back to the idea of the fall being the real New Year as what we do now has a big impact on the course of the rest of the year. There’s no point waiting until January and after a harsh winter to get organized, this is the ideal time to do it.
With the weather still being decent and the days lasting somewhat longer still you can take control of that clutter and disorganization you might find yourself surrounded by. Even tackling any projects around the house should be focused now so when you get out of those winter months you are already ahead of the game.
We all love summer and seeing it go each year is never easy. Instead of having to leave it kicking and screaming you can still take advantage of this time of year to make some big positive changes in your life. Use September and the fall as the jumping off point to improve your health, fitness, and life. And when the January blizzards hit you can enjoy some quality Princess Bride time knowing you’ve made some great strides already.
