Dr. Rakesh Sinha, considered a “pioneer in the field of endoscopic gynecology,” died while training for the Mumbai Marathon, underscoring the potential hazards of intense exercise on heart health.

Dr. Sinha, who would have turned 60 on January 11th, was also a father, author and motivational speaker. His son, also a doctor, believes his father “suffered a massive myocardial infarction.”

Heart surgeon Ramakanta Panda told the Times of India that Sinha’s death does “underline the need for regular health and heart assessments for everyone. Being aware and looking healthy is one thing; being healthy and monitoring oneself regularly is another.”
