Why Affirmations Work!

There is power in the words we choose to use. Our words help to emotionally shift our thoughts and beliefs.

The Thrive Global Community welcomes voices from many spheres on our open platform. We publish pieces as written by outside contributors with a wide range of opinions, which don’t necessarily reflect our own. Community stories are not commissioned by our editorial team and must meet our guidelines prior to being published.

There is power in the words we choose to use. Our words help to emotionally shift our thoughts and beliefs. The more empowering our words — the more improved our state of mind. The clearer our mindset — the more desirable our outcomes and results. Our resistance (toward anything and everything) becomes smaller when we choose to profoundly enrich and enhance our own emotional well-being. Every single day we are inundated with a tsunami of simultaneous and often competing thoughts. Thoughts which ever so quickly can bombard and overwhelm our senses, and thoughts which often times skew and distort our perceptions. Thoughts which can magnify our insecurities, heighten our fears, which if left to consume us, will in fact erode our self-esteem. Destructive thought patterns and wreak havoc on the way we speak to ourselves, perceive ourselves, and see ourselves in relationship to others and to the world in general.

We externally radiate and emanate energetically that which swirls around inside of ourselves. People who are angry, bitter, negative or contracted tend to dialogue very differently than those who are optimistic, expanded, impassioned, and inspired. The relationship one has with self hence the relationship one has with the universe is easily detectable when tell-tale signs are observable. A person who speaks lovingly, respectfully, and kindly with themselves, and who values and honours their own spirit and soul will naturally convey this in the outer world, too. It will be evidenced in mannerisms, body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, verbal inflection, eye contact, aura, and so forth. It is not difficult to discern the difference or the contrast between someone who is tightly bound, stressed, or seemingly out of alignment as compared to someone who is operating at a higher vibrational level.

Our thoughts activate the frequency patterns we operate and navigate within. Those who are in the flow with self hence being in the flow of life have an ease about them. These individuals are lighter and brighter. They are able to relinquish that which does not or no longer serves them thereby freeing up space to embrace that which does. How these individuals choose to experience their lives is intentional — is purposeful — is mindful — is premised on a deliberate decision to be consciously aware — to be awakened, to observe, to choose, and to be tapped into to all that is.

This state of being and sphere of energy is not random in nature. It is a choice, a practice, a discipline, a focus, a honed muscle and is cultivated on purpose. This version of self is a derivative birthed out of the foundation it was allowed to grow in and out of. The oxygen which fueled ones ability to thrive and flourish was purposely protected and purified. The roots of thoughts were replanted in fresh, rich soil. The mind was transplanted into a bigger home for the purpose of growth. The energy then organically shifts and gravitates toward the direct sunlight; rhythmically responding to its warmth. I wholeheartedly believe in, pay attention to, and respond accordingly to universal signs and symbols placed before me. These exist and are present for everyone to take notice of and to question deeper meaning and underlying messaging if one is or chooses to be… receptive, tapped in and open-minded to the receiving of daily gifts and answers. Although I am not religious, I am however, a spiritual being. Nature speaks to me. Nature guides me. Nature surrounds me everywhere. The Universe and Universal Energy is what I refer to as my ‘God’ if you will.

The depth and breadth of my daily gratitude (for everything) is a very sacred relationship — one I cherish deeply. Living my life with intentional, purposeful and meaningful gratitude is at the heart and centre of who I intrinsically and intuitively am. My daily gratitude mindset became richer, deeper, clearer as a result of incorporating affirmations into my daily regimen. Affirming and re-affirming my daily gratitude has become so ingrained in my daily life that it often takes priority to brushing my teeth each morning of each day. Once-upon-a-time, I used to write affirmations on sticky notes and place them all over my home in the high traffic areas of where I was guaranteed to notice them — this also included my vehicle, and on my computer screen, and in my daily journal — everywhere. The sticky notes eventually became replaced with memorized mirroring work. I would and still do look myself in the mirror each day while proclaiming out loud; my daily gratitude. This daily ritual of mine also includes speaking my affirmations aloud while driving from point A to point B in my vehicle. Only good, great, and excellent outcomes have materialized in my life as a result of paying attention to all the blessings, gifts and profound life lessons that the Universe has bestowed upon me. My gratitude muscle and honed mindset even considers disappointments, so-called failures, setbacks, and tragedy as good, great, and excellent outcomes for it is in those situations and circumstances we come to know who we really are and how we can then apply the learned lesson for the betterment of all (my held belief, anyway).

In my own personal experience, it is almost impossible if not actually impossible… to be in an authentic energetic state, wave, sphere of gratitude while simultaneously experiencing the opposing extreme of emotions on the other side of the pendulum. To my knowledge, I am quite sure that when I have been in a deep state of gratitude, and was mindful of such — that that was the only emotion felt and expressed within me and by me while in that particular, precise moment of exercising, implementing and proclaiming my gratitude. Challenging I would imagine, to feel genuinely grateful and resentful at the same time. I can only ever speak for myself of course (as should be the case) and so… based on my daily commitment, time, energies, disciplined focus to being fixated (even obsessed) with continually wanting to only ever operate at my highest vibrational level -especially in the knowing that what we choose to place our focus and attention on in life only ever grows stronger…has truly been a win-win approach for me in my life. Owning and declaring this as my truth for how I choose to live my life has served me well with respect to self-love and self-respect and has served others well in relationship to me as a result of my only ever wanting to be the best, healthiest, vibrant, real version of myself.

Affirmations, Proclamations, I AM statements, mirroring work, and so forth… has been an absolute game changer to my overall quality of life, and for my continued love and gratitude for life! I love this subject matter and would only be too grateful and honoured to discuss this with anyone who wishes to take the conversation further and deeper! Sharing the wealth as I always do knowing that what works for me may also work for you! We don’t know what we don’t know. Uplifting you to fear less and to live more!

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
