Recently I had lunch with a friend who asked if I had figured out what I want from my life. We don’t live forever, so maybe its good to understand what we want. Change happens all the time. At school we look forward to moving to another level. At work we keep looking for more money, and that great promotion. Does it really make you happy?

A few years ago a life changing accident helped shift my focus from everything and on me. The world continued spinning, and everyone continued moving. This is life. After lunch I went home and thought about what my heart desires, so here it is.

Look into my heart

When you’ve done a lot of living
And then life is on pause
Because maybe you’re thinking
Life needs to give more.

Maybe I’m just understanding
My own purpose and place to be
It has nothing to do with everyone else
Just what’s deep inside,
That I’m afraid to see.

So this is my list
Its not finished

Just incomplete today
I’m sharing with you my friend
The next steps for me, in my phase
Don’t know if you can understand

Or imagine through my eyes
But I’m going to take a chance and show you
What is locked away deep inside.

For the rest of my time here on earth
I’d like to meet him.
He who loves God with all his heart
And can make me second to him.
I’d like a friend who remembers my birthday — with some joy
I’d like to have ‘that’ relationship that matters
When happiness or sadness knocks at his door,
I’d like to be the one who makes him smile,
and who his heart never leaves.

I’d like to be the one he leaves the toilet seat up with
Because it won’t matter to me.
I want to have his hungry feelings
For food and anything else he needs.
I’d like to join hands and pray with him
Each night before we go to bed.
I’d like to share with him, my world
No illusions, just being me
I’d like to see the depths of his dreams
The kind he never shows anybody.

I am not a drama queen,
And not wanting a drama king.
But wish to see his kindness when I’m not looking at him
I’m not sure what he will be doing
But work should not be his only prize
I’d like to be the reason he comes home early
Especially to give me a hugging surprise.

I’d like to share my family with him
I’d like to be the one he takes to his home
I’m hoping we will share all our friends
Yet share a lot of time alone
You see I’ve come to realize what’s important to me
Beyond everyone’s happiness and care
Its more than what I give to the outside
Its hard to see unless you are near.

I don’t know who you are
Or even if you exist
But I’m hoping I’m the one
Your eyes somehow missed.
Hey I’m not that perfect woman
I’m just a perfect me
I’ve been thinking about my purpose
And now wondering about making my dreams real
Don’t doubt your destination
Because my GPS is blinking at this time
I’m somewhere at the corner
Of your heart and the meeting of our eyes!

Maybe I’ve digressed a bit
but I’m pinpointing what I hope you will seek
Its at the corner of our future relationship
and somewhere in my dreams
So I’m back in the game of living
I’m back in the life of me
I’m going to work on those
less important things not mentioned
And simply let Jesus guide you to me!

That’s my best way to answer what matters most, since crossing the many life channels I’ve navigated. It was the answer to a simple but profound question. Have you figured out your hidden desire yet?

Many times when faced with a question about ourselves we are altruistic, because that’s important to us. Taking care of our families, ensuring we do well at our jobs and advance our careers, being active in our communities are the things we put ahead of our own needs. It’s okay to be selfish. Give yourself permission to understand your hearts desire. That’s the only way you can find what aches you, and makes your passion sizzle.

Why not do you? You can make some time for the person who has a personal purpose because you are a beautiful individual!
