The question of when was air conditioner invented is on the agenda of many people who are curious about the basic point of the cooling systems used today. Air conditioning, which increases the comfort level in cars and homes, has been on the agenda since the 1500s. So when was the air conditioner invented? Here is some information on that topic

Air conditioning systems are among the inventions that have been emphasized throughout history. Artificial ventilation and artificial cooling systems have been used since ancient times. In the past, people were looking for solutions by hanging wet mats at doorways or by designing their homes (by passing the air currents through the fountains in the courtyard before entering the house) to provide cooling. By the 19th century, fans were placed in front of the ice to cool the air; but it was necessary to wait until 1902 for the first scientifically designed air conditioner invented by Willis H. Carrier.

First test for vehicle air conditioning has been made in 1884

In 1884, William Whiteley made an experiment by placing ice blocks under the carriage and blowing it through a fan connected to the axle, but the use of air conditioning in motor vehicles dates back to 1938. . But the first car with a true cooling system was the 1939 Packard.

Historical development of the air conditioner

Air conditioning is the process of continuously supplying and establishing the function of heating, cooling, cleaning, circulation and keeping the humidity of the air at a certain level. The employee made the first fan, sometimes surrounded by slaves. This system is the first attempt to automatically change the conditions of a closed space. A similar device, a fan suspended from the ceiling, was used in India. In the beginning, it was tied with a rope at the end and moved with human power; later on the machine was used. Although these are found very primitive today, in their efforts to control the atmosphere of the environment in which people live today,

After the 19th century, the art of ventilation and central heating has made a great progress. With the invention of fans, boilers, and radiators, these processes were immediately accepted and widespread. In 1844, John Gorrie, Director of the Apalachicola Naval Hospital in America, described the first cooling machine project and realized the invention of the first industrial type cooling / air conditioning machine in the world with the donation of 8080 patients until 1851. Gorrie’s machine has been accepted all over the world. Until 1880, a series of improvements were made in Gorrie’s machine and the presence of a piston compressor, new ice machines, meat packaging the fish processing machinery cooling is fully established in the industry. After all these developments, refrigeration engineering was accepted as a professional engineering in America and ASRE (American Refrigeration Engineers Association) was formed with 70 members in 1904.

Today, it is accepted by many professionals and historians in this sector that Willis H. Carrier, who lived between 1876-1950, was the chief developer of the air conditioning system. In 1911, Carrier invented the psychometrics table showing the relationship between temperature, humidity and heat behavior, which is the basis of air conditioning calculations today, and invented the first centrifuge refrigeration machine in 1922.

Another big development in the air conditioning industry; It was realized in 1930 with the development of fiorocarbon Freon refrigerants by Dsi Pont company. In 1935, the first hermetic compressor was introduced to the market.

With the developing technology and prosperity after the Second World War, there has been a great increase in the production and use of package type air conditioners in the world.
