Dear Travis

Please don’t throw this away because it’s important that you read what I’m going to say.

Look around you.

It’s your birthday and who’s with you?

Not your wife.

You lost her when you both divorced.

Your children?

No, they’re growing up without you.

Bear with me, Travis, I’m not saying this to be mean. I know you love your children but it’s important that you hear me out.

What about your colleagues that you used to work with?

They don’t return your calls anymore.

Your support base and friends?

You lost them when you moved towns.

And I won’t talk about the other loss you had.

Travis, I know you’re struggling and you know it too.

Yes, you hide it well and you’ve always tried to shoulder it by yourself so you didn’t place your problems on others, but you’re not Superman.

And let’s face it, you can’t help others unless you help yourself first.

There are still people there for you. I know it doesn’t seem it at the moment but there are.

Why won’t you help yourself? Is it fear?

I once heard you say that while most people run away from that sheet of fear in front of them, you’ll always run towards it and smash through it because you know what’s on the other side is so much better.

And maybe that’s what true leadership is.

Not having the accolades, the cheering and the adulation, but being scared and still running towards that sheet of fear every day, breaking through to the other side.

Have a look at what this person is doing.

Why don’t you contact him because it seems as though others see this as an issue that needs addressing as well.

You’re smart enough to know that you can thrive in future if you just help yourself.

You just need me to remind you of that.

But most of all, please don’t forget who you are and all the value you’ve created in the past.

You still have much value to give.

Your Best Friend

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
