With just 500 dollars to his name, Myles Kofi Fynn-Aggrey, better known as BlackKingKofi, moved back to Canada to jumpstart his career and make a name for himself. Having just moved from Trinidad and Tobago, looking for better opportunities, he began recording and putting songs out on streaming platforms such as Spotify.

All on his own, BlackKingKofi began to promote himself on all social networks. Having always been very social media savvy, he knew exactly how the internet world worked and used it in his favor. He created his Instagram and webpage, @6ixclouttv, where he helped give exposure to up and coming artists.

“It’s been one year since I started the blog and I’ve helped so many artists it’s amazing. I never thought I could create a business off instagram nor did I ever think my promotional page would evolve into a blog/marketing company and off of something I love, which is music and sharing knowledge with others,” he shares.

He’s created an engagement network of verified users and took over the digital marketing for many big names and brands. Black King offers artists promotional services and all of their marketing needs. He’s managed to push his spotify to almost 500k streams, all on his own. He has even given his help to popular artists who are his clients now.

“I am a man of many talents who came to Canada with $500 and in 3 years made all of these things happen on my own,” he says.

BlackKingKofi’s inspiration when starting his business was the lack of support for independent creatives. His passion for music, and the process of recording and releasing new music led him to this idea of a hip-hop blog. He fell in love with music at the age of 8 and even told his mom he wants to be a rapper when he grows up.

“If more creatives try expanding their portfolios they will be more valuable. Anyone can write and record a song but can you take your own photos and edit them? Manage your social media/ grow it? If you possess many talents I believe you increase your value,” he emphasizes.

When starting his business, he had to rely on his mindset to help him overcome all obstacles.

“You need to have a powerful mind because sometimes the negativity outweighs the positivity and you will feel like giving up,” he says.

He had to deal with jealousy and fake associates who tried to sabotage the business by spreading rumours, trying to discredit his brand. They even went as far as to try to hack his Instagram page, but he was able to recover it.

For BlackKingKofi, competition isn’t something he has to worry about. By being a creative, he is always a step ahead of his competition when it comes to fresh, new ideas. He spends hours every day networking, since he believes it is not all about what you know, but who you know as well. When it comes down to fear, he believes you can overcome fear with the right approach.

“We have a saying back in Trinidad “what don’t kill does fatten” which basically means if it doesn’t kill you it can only make you stronger,” he shares.

Success to him means crushing every goal he sets, both short term and long term goals. It also means having financial stability while doing the things he loves and is passionate about. This is why he advises anyone who wants to start a business to choose something they’re passionate about.

“Even though you’re working you will never notice it because it is something you love which will make it even easier,” he says.

His upcoming projects include releasing new music, which he plans on releasing later this year. He is also currently working on a set of interviews for his blog with upcoming artists. All of this while simultaneously planning his first event for the blog and a charity event because, for him, it is important to give back. Having moved to Canada with just 500 dollars and a dream, Black King has been adamant about giving back and giving a platform to talented artists. He is trying to be the help he wishes he had when he was just starting out.
