What Does Your Brain Eat? The Secret Behind Energy Boosts

Especially when it comes to physical exertion, most of our power is in our brain...

The secret behind Energy Drinks is not in the caffeine or the sugar. It’s true these definitely give you a hit, but you can feel and have more energy simply by feeding your brain and your central nervous system. This is because the ability to focus and to have greater concentration feels like more energy. Especially when it comes to physical exertion, most of our power, strength and endurance is actually in our brain. Sounds crazy, I know! But if that weren’t the case, those energy shots you buy over the counter, wouldn’t be jam-packed with all the niacin and other Vitamin Bs that support neurological activity; and the targeted electrical stimulation of your motor cortex, wouldn’t result in your ability to lift heavier, run longer or even play piano better.

Yes, that’s right, if you haven’t heard of it yet, you can now zap your brain (while you work out) with subtle electromagnetic signals targeting your motor cortex. What this does is excite the neurons in your brain responsible for actioning movement, so they end up learning the movements you’re performing better than they would’ve without being stimulated. The result is that they develop the ability to perform the movements more efficiently. More efficiency means greater power, strength and/or endurance. In other words, better performance, sooner.

And because playing a musical instrument requires the same motor skills, essentially, as playing a sport, the same technology is able to make musicians perform complex pieces better and sooner as well.

There is a hidden power player in meeting our energy needs. Yes, you need carbs, but you also need a brain that’s switched on and ready to go. Feed your brain.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
