I come from a family water. It’s a statement having been mentioned before. Never had that become more clear to me than after my Grandfather James Howell’s passing. And even after his entrance into heaven’s gates, I continued to see how heaven was working to inform my family and I that Grandpa was still around. That heaven’s gates were allowing signs of his presence to show up for comfort. Ever reminding his family and friends that he was nearby.
Returning to Cairo for a brief time (before summer vacation) after Grandpa’s memorial, I allowed my regular schedule to take form. Calling family members and checking in, on my return for the summer. The Memorial Day holiday in the States was coming up. On the day of Memorial Day, Mom and I spoke about what this holiday meant. What it means for James Howell’s presence as a Navy man. Grandpa’s memorial was on April 20, 2019. For some reason the number 2 has a special place with Grandpa Howell and our family. That spirit of balance and the essence of harmony was always connected with Grandpa. It wouldn’t be far fetched to say that James Howell was (and his Spirit is) a peacemaker. Always choosing peace, first! Yet, unwilling to back down from a fight. Truly resilient and fearful of no one. That was Grandpa! I’m not kidding when I state that the Howell Family has a legacy of resilience. Resilience and perseverance.
Gliding through time on another day in Cairo-a time when the sun is excited-myself and loved one took one of our numerous train rides to our respective destinations. Its amazing how even when water is not present, she is still gliding. When water appears to be invisible, she shows up through people and other life forms. Even more, water circulates and works with time. Water and time! A team of duality. When joined together, both elements have the power to move people of different spaces, of different lands into the celebration of another.
Having the power to send me from nations and place we would never imagine in order to guide us on our spiritual journey. Sending Spirits and Beings as reminders that loved ones, who had transitioned were nearby. And that heaven allowed them to use living, breathing people to communicate their messages to those they left behind.
The day after speaking with Mom was the day I saw the personification of two. While sitting in Cairo’s metro train station to Maadi, their presence was evident! Vigilant for all to see. Two angels dressed in uniform-navy men of Egypt’s maritime armed forces! James Howell’s memorial was on the number 2! Grandpa was (and is) a navy man of the US armed forces! And lo and behold these 2 angels appeared! Adorned, elegant, and wearing their uniforms with the class and sophistication that only navy men (and women) can do. The moment was too precious! It was too magical. Too perfect! And yet, so heavenly.
Photo ops with these men were a reminder, and illuminating proof, of the wonder of heaven! How heavens is connected to Earth, and continues to do infinite work on Earth. Its one of the healing factors of finding peace in a loved one’s transition. The art, belief, and faith of experiencing their continued work in our lives. The two angels were gentle, kind, and delicate in their approach. Patient and allowing myself, and loved one, to capture our own existence with theirs.
Upon our destined stop, both navy men also departed. We were destined to arrive and depart at the same point of the location. Location, through time, gave us the opportunity to converse on our personal journeys. It was brought to their attention that Grandpa James Howell was a U.S. navy veteran. Chatting even more, the two angels highlighted their dreams of one day becoming officers in their units. Our conversations were smooth and natural. It was as if we had recognized each other, or that we identified with a particular, spiritual path, selected for us by heaven.
One of the joys and aesthetics of still having your loved one nearby even in their heavenly realm, is how much they show up at precious moments. Using others to remind you that they are still there. They see a whole other realm than we do. And they remind us that heaven does exist. Life does continue with our loved ones, who have crossed over. And if we are truly listening and paying attention, heaven’s grace allows them to give us subtle or obvious clues that their presence is still powerful and magnanimous in our lives.
And so, after talks had ended (images had been preserved), hands were shaken, with bids of farewells and “good lucks,” too. One of the water angels even acknowledged his dreams and desires of being a ranking officer in the Egyptian navy. Leaving that blessed moment, was a reminder into the myriad ways of comfort we experience after a loss. If we allow ourselves to accept comfort. In these moments, we question the true meaning of loss.
Venturing off to teach, that experience was the moment I needed. Like drinking a glass of ice, cold water, it was refreshing. An ample reminder that Grandpa is still working-even while resting (and tending to) in the gardens of paradise! All the while continuing to gain knowledge of heaven’s own water jewels.
