“After battling a long bought of depression, in 2016 I decided to combat my illness through a holistic approach. Through exercise, journaling and meditation I was able to turn my health around. During that time I began to document my process of weight loss via social media. Doing so created a new platform and tribe of women who were battling similar issues as myself. My page then became a community where women like myself could come to for advice, tips & resources for health related issues.”
I had the pleasure to interview Jaz Jackson. Jaz is the founder of JSCULPT FITNESS
Thank you so much for doing this with us! What is your “backstory”?
My career began back in 2012 as a beauty vlogger. I would create affordable looks with hair and makeup for my audience. As the years progressed my platform evolved to more health and fitness based content. Today, in addition to running a growing fitness brand called JSCULPT FITNESS I am also a radio personality here in the city of Chicago for 106.3 Chicago’s R&B.
Can you share the funniest or most interesting story that happened to you in the course of your career?
Theres has always been tons of laughs throughout my career. But I’d have to say my funniest moments was always on my YouTube channel when I would do my “story time” videos.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
After battling a long bought of depression, in 2016 I decided to combat my illness through a holistic approach. Through exercise, journaling and meditation I was able to turn my health around. During that time I began to document my process of weight loss via social media. Doing so created a new platform and tribe of women who were battling similar issues as myself. My page then became a community where women like myself could come to for advice, tips & resources for health related issues.
If someone would want to emulate your career, what would you suggest are the most important things to do?
I never suggest to emulate anyones career path, as each journey is created uniquely for you. However I always recommend to never give up in your journey as your big break is usually on the other side of you greatest battle.
Is there a particular person that made a profound difference in your life to whom you are grateful? Can you share a story?
I always give credit to my mentor Tiffany Smith. We met when I was 19 years old working as an intern for Fox New Chicago. She was a producer for the morning news show and took me under her wing when no one else would. She taught me perseverance and never gave up on me even when I didn’t make the best decisions. Her guidance and wisdom is what molded me into the woman I am today. For that I am forever grateful.
So what are the most exciting projects you are working on now?
Today I run a successful fitness brand (JSCULPT FITNESS) and I’m living out my dreams as a radio host middays, here in Chicago. My life is full of new adventures all of which I am so thankful for.
What are your “Top Five Ideas About How Influencers Can Monetize Their Brand” . (Please share a story or example for each.)
My top 5 ideas about how an Influencer can monetize there brand are as follows
. Monetize your YouTube channel. When you do qualify you will start to have daily ads run on your videos which add up at the end of each month.
. Find you niche. If you are a beauty blogger find cool and unique looks to make you stand out. Doing so will attract more viewers to your page which will increase your revenue.
. Sale merchandise. If you have a catchy phrase or statement that viewers know you by, you can put this on clothing and novelty items like coffee mugs. This also allows you to create your own price point.
. Collaborate with brands. As you build your audience the brands will come. Depending on the type of paid advertisement they offer to you you could make hundreds to thousands of dollars per video. This is all however based on you social reach and engagement.
. Create e-books. Do you have an expertise in something? Provide an e-book to your fan base.
Some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this. 🙂
I would absolutely love to have lunch with Oprah Winfrey! It would be a dream to hear some behind the scene stories of some of her days during the ‘Oprah Winfrey Show”.
