Toilet Paper Could be Causing you Urinary Tract Infections (UTI): What to Do?

Toilet paper is a cause of urinary tract infection, anal fissures as well as painful urination. We looked at some of the best alternatives that you should be using such as adult wipes, lota and family cloths.

alternatives to toilet paper

I do not remember the last time I used toilet paper to wipe my butt. It has been a long time. Why I no longer use it is because I found out that it was putting me at all types of risks all the way from anal fissures to urinary tract infections (UTI). And one more thing is that toilet paper never actually cleans your butt really well. What it does is just wiping the fecal material towards one edge and never quite does the job really well.

Low quality and scented toilet paper has also been said to be a leading cause of painful urination especially among women.

Do it like the Muslims: Wipe with water and left hand

If you really need to wipe your bum well, then you should be thinking of using water. Muslims have been for a long time doing this where they carry a lota or what they call a bodna which they use to carry water to the toilet. After emptying their bowels, they will then proceed to clean themselves with the left hand. There has been a lot of questions raised on how hygienic this is but Muslims hold on to it saying that they feel flesh and clean after the process.

Use Flushable Adult Wipes

I somehow agree to this argument since I have been using adult wet wipes and one feels great after wiping themselves with a wet substance. The problem with using wet wipes is that you are afraid of throwing it down the sewer system since you do not know what might happen when you do so. You really need to be careful so that you only use the best flushable wipes that are not going to clog your drainage system. If blocking happens, you will not only be destroying your septic system but also getting in the wrong books of the municipal laws when it floods.

Some of the flushable wipes that are sold online include cottonele, dude wet wipes, stall mate as well as charmin wipes.

You need to make sure that the wipe you are using is alcohol, paraben as well as fragrance free. This makes it good even when you are having a sensitive skin.

Use family cloths

There is yet another way of ensuring that you wipe well. And it is using family cloths. Now family cloths are nothing but old rags, cloths and dresses around your home that you cut nicely into square pieces, moisten them and use to wipe your butt. After every use, you are to clean and disinfect them for later use. The proponents of the family cloth argue that it is a great thing when you want to conserve the environment as well as spend less on toilet paper.

One thing that you have to always observe when using family cloths is that it needs to be always washed with hot water as well as disinfecting with some anti-microbial agents for good results.
