To co-work or not to co-work?

I’m currently sat at home in my “office” – which as well as being the office of dai:lingual also serves as a dining room at least three times a day – listening to my wife’s Hells’s Ditch LP by The Pogues. It’s the one with Summer of Siam on it:

Yes, so it may well be one of those albums that a husband thoughtfully buys for the household – I mean wife – as he fancies listening to such a great record himself; which could well be a habit I inherited from my father, but Whatever (as Oasis might say) : at home I can wear what I like (today I’m mostly dressed by adidas) and listen to what I like when I like.

So why would I ever leave?!

Co-working

Humans are sociable animals. We probably stop short of looking for nits to pick out of each other’s hair in these post-Corona days, but there are plenty of other more modern rituals to take part in, like the communal lunch.

So this week saw me breaking bread in a multicultural area of Cardiff called Glan yr Afon (Riverside, see main image) to see a co-working space there.

Al Mish’aal is Gentle / Radical‘s co-working space there, and as well as a warm welcome we were offered lentil soup, roast potatoes and spinach and feta pie which soon won me over. They have a communal lunch once a week, and there is a real sense of community there which is something that is possibly missing from our dining room…although the food here can be good too now that I’ve learnt how to cook the superfood butternut squash. That sounds like a different column, though.
