With the pandemic still going on throughout the world, many citizens are continuing to be confined to their homes. While being in quarantine is imperative for the health and safety of yourself and others, it can make it a bit difficult to stay fit or eat a nutritionally balanced diet. Many gyms around the country are still closed and shopping during a pandemic can present some difficulties. For staying healthy during quarantine, follow these helpful tips!

Don’t Skip Fruits and Vegetables

A great way to ensure you’re maintaining a healthy diet is by eating more fruits and vegetables. Some people skip over this while food shopping during the pandemic because fruits and vegetables do not have a long shelf-life and would require leaving their house for more food by the end of the week. However, purchasing frozen fruits and vegetables will help them last much longer.  Fruits and vegetables also provide vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals to help keep your immune system strong and healthy.

Practice Proper Self-Soothing

During a pandemic, more people are prone to feeling anxious, stressed, or depressed. Because of this, they look for new ways to self-soothe. Seeking ways to self-soothe is great, but it can easily be done wrong. Instead of overindulging in alcohol, candy, ice cream, chips, or sugary drinks to calm yourself down, opt for healthier alternatives such as listening to music, doing yoga, exercise, and meditation.  These healthy self-soothing options can help relieve stress or anxiety in the long run and keep you healthy.

Stick to Your Regular Sleep Schedule

Many people are beginning to catch up on a lot of sleep while in quarantine now that they have the time for it. While this can feel great at first, it can also be bad for your health in the long run. It’s important to follow your normal sleep schedule before the quarantine or stick to a healthier one. This means getting enough hours of sleep, going bed at a reasonable hour, and waking up at a reasonable time as well. It could also help to limit your blue spectrum light exposure before bed to ensure a restful sleep.

Get Some Time Outside

Although it is imperative to stay indoors as much as possible, this can be damaging to your mental health. That’s why it’s also important to spend a few minutes a day outside. A simple walk around the block and enjoying the sunshine while following social distancing rules can do wonders for your mental and physical health.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
