This One Belief is the Key to Your Health

Believe you can choose your health outcomes and you can change your life.

Do you believe you have the power to choose? When I say choose, I mean everything. From choosing what’s for dinner to what you want your life and your health to be?

Do you believe that every choice you’ve made up until today (including choosing to read this article) has contributed to the state of your life and your health at this moment?

Here’s the cool thing…if you believe you have the power to choose you’re right.

Here’s the weird thing…if you believe you don’t have the power to choose, you’re also right.

Wait, what?!

Our mind is amazingly powerful and will create the reality we believe in. This is the crucial piece..your beliefs dictate your behavior.

If you believe you have the power to choose and that you can change your life, your health, your reality by making a choice, you are much more likely to make choices that DO change your life, your health, your reality.

If you believe you don’t have any power to choose and life just happens to you, you stop making choices that take you where you want to go and end up wherever you end up.

I’ll give you an example of this in action. I have a client (I’ll call her Trudie) who believed she had no control over her choices. Trudie called herself an emotional eater and since there was nothing she could do about that (it’s just the way I am), she didn’t believe she could ever lose weight and feel healthy.

For 4 months we worked on developing strategies to help her handle the emotions that would trigger binge eating. In month 5, she had a double-whammy of stress/emotions. Her adult child who lived 3,000 miles away had a medical emergency and she got a new boss who was making her life miserable.

As Trudie worked through all of this (it took about a month), she didn’t binge eat at all. For the first time in her life, she chose how she would respond to the stress and emotion. She no longer believed she was a stress eater. And if she wasn’t a stress eater, she had a choice to respond to the stress in new ways.

You CAN create your own reality. You CAN choose to be different. Once you make that decision, things can move and change quickly.
