Charlie Chaplin, greatest comic and silent movie star, delivered one of the most powerful speeches, recorded in 1940’s film The Great Dictator. He captured the hearts of people across the world, past and present with a courageous plea for sanity in a time of a world gone crazy with war. Chaplin’s words permeate the soul’s of many as his words are as relevant today as they were 76 years ago.

Charlie won the hearts of many with his films yet many do not know that he also gifted the world with his Love Yourself Manifesto. His poem was attributed to having been written on Charlie’s 70 birthday on April 16 1959 and once again, his words ever so needed then, are priceless in a world that needs little more self love.

Today, we are in a place in time where our environments, our culture and our world, seems to be overwhelmed with self obsession, instant gratification and self centred driven egos. Perhaps humanity thirsts a transfusion of self love?

Let’s get deeper, delve into a few more layers and deepen our sense of appreciation, our sense of kindness and our sense of gratitude. Let’s pause on the selfie-love for today. Let’s immerse ourselves in being in touch with one self — just for a moment.

Let’s communicate self love through your beautiful spirit, through strengthening human connection and compassion. Lets make a commitment to ourselves, to honour the beauty within as we self-love, then others through us, experience the profound gift we give to our self.

Self-love is your way of communicating with your beautiful spirit. It is a journey to strengthening this connection of pure love and a commitment to you.

As I began to love myself

I found that anguish and emotional suffering are only warning signsthat I was living against my own truth.Today, I know, this is “AUTHENTICITY.”

As I began to love myself, I understood how much it can offend somebodyAs I try to force my desires on this person, even though I knew, the time was not right, and the person was not ready for it, and even though this person was me.Today I call it “RESPECT”.

As I began to love myself, I stopped craving for a different life, and I could see that everything that surrounded me was inviting me to grow.Today I call it “MATURITY.”

As I began to love myself I understood that at any circumstance,I am in the right place at the right time, and everything happens at the exactly right moment. So I could be calm.Today I call it “SELF-CONFIDENCE.”

As I began to love myself I quit stealing my own time, and I stopped designing huge projects for the future. Today, I only do what brings me joy and happiness, things I love to do and that make my heart cheer, and I do them in my own way and in my own rhythm.Today I call it “SIMPLICITY.”

As I began to love myself I freed myself, of anything that is no good for my health — Food, people, things, situations, and everything the drew me down and away from myself. At first, I called this attitude a healthy egoism.Today I know it is “LOVE OF ONESELF”.

As I began to love myself, I quit always trying to be right, and ever since I was wrong less of the time.Today I discovered that is “MODESTY.”

As I began to love myself, I refused to go on living in the past and worry about the future. Now, I only live for the moment, where everything is happening.Today I live each day, day by day, and I call it “FULFILMENT.”

As I began to love myself, I recognized that my mind can disturb meand it can make me sick. But as I connected it to my heart, my mind became a valuable ally.Today I call this connection “WISDOM OF THE HEART.”

We no longer need to fear arguments, confrontations or any kind of problemswith ourselves or others. Even stars collide, and out of their crashing new worlds are born.Today I know “THAT IS LIFE”!

Give the gift of self love — you are so worth it! Let’s open the door to YOU so you can make decisions that inspire you … and through you, others will shine.
