I had the pleasure of interviewing Glen B. Levine, Esq. a founding partner of The Law Offices of Anidjar and Levine, P.A. in Fort Lauderdale,FL.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! What is your “backstory”?

I got started in the legal industry when I clerked in my father’s law office. My first job out of law school was at a personal injury firm in Hollywood, Florida.

Can you share the funniest or most interesting story that happened to you since you began leading your company?

When I was a young attorney, I tried my first case without the benefit of another attorney and I wasn’t certain that I was doing everything correctly. Afterward, the court reporter told my boss — without my knowledge — that she thought I did really well in my first trial. My boss later shared this with me. The court reporter’s compliment gave me confidence that I was heading in the right direction.

What do you think makes your company stand out? Can you share a story?

Our company stands out because we provide a level of service that is unmatched by most law firms. My partners and I take new client calls after hours and over the weekend, and many of our largest cases have been secured during a call that occurred during these times. We give all of our clients our cell phone numbers and I think having that level of contact gives our clients a great sense of security that we are always just a phone call away.

Are you working on any new or exciting projects now?

I am currently representing a client who was injured in a head-on collision on I-95. The driver of the other vehicle died in the crash. Our client suffered multiple fractures and a traumatic brain injury. He spent a month in ICU and has recently been transferred to a critical care unit at the hospital.

What advice would you give to other CEOs or founders to help their employees to thrive?

I never ask my employees to do something that I wouldn’t do. If I ask them to stay late, then I stay late. If I ask them to come in on the weekends, I will come in too.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are?

My father has always been my biggest mentor. He is a builder and an attorney, but his academic and professional accomplishments are not the reasons that he is my biggest mentor. By watching my father in business, I have learned how important it is to treat people kindly. No matter how big or small a person’s status is, my father always finds the time to learn about the people who come into his life. He has always been loyal in business and still works with many people he has worked with for the last 40 years. And it is great to have him working at our firm.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I enjoy mentoring the young attorneys in my office to show them that there is a human side to the practice of law. It is important for me to impress upon the young attorneys that our clients are people who are suffering with pain and stress after an accident.

Can you share the top five ways that increased diversity can help a company’s bottom line. 

1. We have people in the office that speak multiple languages, including Spanish, Hebrew, Creole, French, and Portuguese. We also employ people from diverse backgrounds. We believe by emphasizing diversity, our attorneys are better able to meet the needs of our clients who come from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds.

2. Our diversity has assisted us many times when working with clients who do not speak English as their first language. For instance, one of our clients — the mother of an injured boy — greatly benefited from our communication skills. The client’s son suffered a brain injury and was hospitalized for two months. When the client was being discharged from the hospital, we had a bilingual attorney present to discuss the discharge instructions with the attending neuropsychologist. Our ability to understand the extent of the injury assisted us in properly preparing the case, and it helped us to provide reassurance to the client in regard to the care of her son.

3. Another example of how our diversity has assisted our business is when working with a client from Israel who was injured while on vacation in Florida. When the client hired our firm, my partner Marc Anidjar was able to communicate with her in Hebrew. Marc was also able to communicate with the medical staff in Israel to facilitate a successful treatment plan and ultimate resolution of the case for our client.

4. Our office celebrates a diverse staff by promoting pot luck lunches and hosting food trucks at the office. By enjoying cuisine from different parts of the world we allow our staff to enjoy and learn about the different cultures of our staff. I have found the more we celebrate our differences, the more we discover our similarities.

5. Our diverse workforce makes our law firm more accessible to broader segments of the South Florida market. For example, we have hosted call-in shows on WPBR-FM Haitian Radio, we have cross-promoted with the Israeli marketplace, and we have made appearances on Spanish television channels. By marketing to multiple cultures, we are better able to serve our diverse community.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”?

Someone once told me that all you need to succeed is 10 two-letter words: “If it is to be, it is up to me.” This quote has stuck with me over the years. It is simple but its meaning is significant. I know that in order to have success in life and business, you have to go out and make it happen for yourself. You cannot wait for success to fall into your lap.
