If you love to travel and love to run, putting your two favorite hobbies together can be one of the most fulfilling things you can do. It is one of the best ways to learn the lay of the land and really immerse yourself in another place and culture. There are quite a few things to consider when running in another country to make sure you are well prepared and can easily find your way.

Pack Items You Think You’ll Need
If you are a runner and think you will make time for daily or even weekly runs, it’s essential to pack accordingly. Think about the temperature and environment in the place you are visiting and bring the necessary gear to ensure a great run.

Research Race Routes
Being in a new place, you won’t know the lay of the land and could get lost without proper research. Utilizing the hotels, Airbnb, etc. will help to ensure you get the best routes for your run. This is also important to make sure you stay safe during your run while you are exploring the city and culture.

Run with a Travel Companion
Depending on who you are traveling with, it is always a great idea to invite your travel companions on your runs. You never know who is going to be interested in tagging along and it will be helpful to have a buddy when running in a place you don’t know well. Having company can make your runs and exploring new areas that much more enjoyable.

Run During the Daytime
If you happen to be running by yourself or even with a companion, it is best to do so during the daytime. When traveling, getting your runs in first thing in the morning can be helpful in order to stick to your exercise regime. Depending on your itinerary, you may not get a chance in the middle of the day or will be too tired by the evening. Make sure to research in order to run in the safe parts of the place you are staying. Running in the morning when the sun is out will help with safety precautions.

Running while traveling can be such a fun and rewarding experience. In seeing how much fun you are having during your runs, your travel companions may jump at the opportunity to join you which can make it all the more enjoyable. The moments you experience while getting outside and exploring will be some of the ones that you will cherish the most.
