Keep open, keep learning, be a team player, and keep positive. The relationships you build professionally and personally are so important. I am very grateful when I’m asked or referred to participate in a new project by someone I’ve worked with before.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Pamela Hill. Pamela is a Cincinnati gal…now living in Hollywood, CA with her actor/writer husband William Joseph Hill. She began her acting and modeling career with the love and support of her family which includes the cuddly love of the 5 kitty cats she’s had in her life. Along with being an actress and married, she always wanted to be an Aunt. Being Aunt Pam brings her a lot of joy. She has appeared in numerous stage, commercial, film and voice-over productions. She is also a professional hand, print, and spokesmodel. Pamela recently co-starred as the comedic self-help guru Samantha Strut in Madame Esmeralda & the Audition, which won the Audience Favorite award at the California Women’s Film Festival. This film just had its Red Carpet screening at the Golden State Film Festival: Hollywood Grauman’s Chinese Theatre! Her other credits include roles on NBC’s daytime drama Days of Our Lives, comedy web series My Roommate the Party Planner, Dysfunctionally Organized, and the indie short The Visitation opposite Owen Teague. She recently wrapped a role in Stephen Keep Mills’ feature film, Love Is Not Love. Pamela also plays Valerie in her kitschy comedy web series THAT DARN GIRLFRIEND. Produced under their Four Scorpio Productions banner, this series has screened episodes at We Make Moves Fest and was a comedy short finalist on TentSquare. Pamela and William, “The Hills of the Hollywood Hills”, created and star in this show that pays homage to classic sitcoms filmed in Fabulous Technicolor!
Thank you so much for joining us Pamela! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I’ve been performing since I was in grade school. I knew that from the first time on the stage I was hooked! At home in Cincy…with records to play — I acted out my own music videos…singing or having comic books to read out loud in a tape recorder and you had one very happy kid. Being the youngest of 3, we often went to see musicals. After seeing A Chorus Line, the excitement of this world of show business stayed with me. I was very fortunate to have very loving parents and family who were so supportive of my move to Hollywood.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started this career?
That’s challenging to pick just one…I think having the opportunity to work with people you always admired and living your dream is a childhood fantasy come true!
Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?
I don’t think it was funny at the time…but looking back, aren’t things always funnier (and flustering) in hindsight? I was carpooling to Valencia when I played the stenographer on the TV show Divorce Court. My ride didn’t show…I called a cab… and took the last $60 I had in traveler’s checks with me. I gave the driver my $60, said that’s all I had and thank you. I suppose the lessons would be to stay strong in challenging situations, and you might want to have a few more traveler’s checks on hand.
What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now?
I was just cast as Lara, a homeless ex-lawyer in Too Close to Home, written by Cailin Harrison and directed by Bob Telford. It will be on stage in Los Angeles at the CORE Playwriting Festival this May. The martial arts/sci-fi comedy film Cyber Fighter written by my husband William has me playing Dr. Kate Rand. I keep busy with staged readings at the film collective We Make Movies. On our web series That Darn Girlfriend,I love playing Valerie. I write the series with my husband William and have directed a few episodes. It’s been receiving wonderful buzz. We appreciate having over 1,000 subscribers to our Four Scorpio Productions channel, and we just started Season 2!
Who are some of the most interesting people you have interacted with? What was that like? Do you have any stories?
Lots of interesting people and stories… the thread for me is: Collaborating with artists in the entertainment industry who share my passion. This brings its own unique adventure and excitement to each new project.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
Have a strong support system. I am fortunate to have a very supportive husband, family, and friends. Stay positive, have faith, and find the funny in everyday situations. I love laughing with my family and friends, which is so cathartic. I do yoga and enjoy doing arts and crafts; both bring me relaxation. I also like indulging in a little chocolate.
You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂
The Kindness movement — “Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.”- Henry James
What are your “5 things I wish someone told me when I first started” and why. Please share a story or example for each.
Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?
These quotes keep me motivated everyday! 🙂
“Faith is Believing in Things When Common Sense Tells You not to.” — Valentine Davies — Miracle on 34th Street
“Follow Your Bliss.” — Joseph Campbell
“Make Work Fun, And Fun Fun.” — My Dad, Donald Malof
“Keep Going For the Stars.” Pamela (Malof) Hill — It’s on my car license plate!
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?
My husband William, parents, family, and friends who support me with love. Colleagues that are kind and have a positive attitude. My spirituality — my faith in God. I am always grateful for my blessings. ❤️
Some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might see this. 🙂
Well…It would be the Hollywood Medium Tyler Henry. I’d love to have him connect me with my Dad, my brother Gary, our kitty cat Clawde, loved ones and my other kitty cats (even though I can feel their presence). ❤️
