… Music is a true healer in many ways, and I hope that my music touches home with the listeners and fans.
…I think I’d like to inspire a movement to try to help solve the anxiety and depression battles that many people suffer from out there including friends and family and just good people in general.
As part of my series featuring the rising stars in the music industry, I had the pleasure of interviewing Cory M. Coons. Growing up in Eastern Ontario (South of Ottawa), Canada, Cory has been passionate about music since his early teen years, and began playing and performing Guitar and Bass while still in High School. Shortly after he would continue down his musical path which led to crafting his own melodies and musical ideas, and soon began travelling and performing in a variety of Cover bands throughout the mid-to- late 90’s in both Ontario and the South-Eastern United States. Now currently as a Solo Recording Artist and Songwriter, Cory released the new melodic/roots-rock album “The Long Road Home” in 2018, produced once again by Multi-Platinum Veteran Music Producer Ron Nevison, (Heart, Bad Company, Damn Yankees, Survivor, Styx, Night Ranger), along with additional stellar guitar work on the new record by musical cohort and engineer Marc D. Muir. The album is currently nominated for “Male Album Of The Year” at one of the biggest Independent Award Shows in North America, the 2019 “Josie Music Awards”. The latest record “The Long Road Home” has just been re-released on MTS Records, along with the “Share A Little Time” (E.p) and a re-issue of the “Retrospective” compilation (spanning 1999’ — 2010′). MTS Records has now also just partnered a worldwide physical distribution (and digital) deal with one of the largest, most respected distributors in the business, MVD Distribution in 2019, placing a majority of the CMC music catalog and physical product in brick and mortar stores from Europe to Asia to North America. Cory was named Best Rock Songwriter for “Long Road (Dead Man’s Dream)” and Best Americana Artist for “Once Too Many, Twice Not Enough” at the 2018 “Radio Music Awards” on The Indie Music Channel, as well as a “World Songwriting Awards Finalist” in 2019 for the single “Would You Stay”. He also received International recognition for “Male Single Of The Year” (Bronze) for the song, and was nominated for “Male Album Of The Year” at this year’s 2019′ “International Singer-Songwriter Association” (ISSA) Awards, and previously at the first annual “Ottawa Sound Music Awards” for “Rock Album Of The Year”. Past Awards include the 2014′ “Studio Album Of The Year” for his Independent E.p “Share A Little Time” at the “Producer’s Choice Honors”, (formerly Los Angeles Music Awards), and nominations for “Male Singer/Songwriter” and “Record Of The Year”, along with “Rock Artist Of The Year” category for 2015 at the Los Angeles Music Awards (LAMA’s). Cory’s influences are a collection of various genres like Melodic Rock and Roots-Rock, blended with hints of Country-Rock. He is a respected Freelance Guitar Instructor in the local St. Lawrence Seaway Valley and at Rock My House Music Centre in Kemptville, ON. Cory has opened and performed alongside such treasured National Canadian like like April Wine, Kim Mitchell, Glass Tiger and David Wilcox.
I have just always loved music. I remember many years ago in the 7th grade when my teacher brought in a Bass Guitar for the class to play one day… When she asked if someone wanted to come up and play it for the class, no one was raising their hand? So I obviously had to go up and try it…. And from that first three note pattern of “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Seger that she had me follow with the old vinyl record on the school turntable, I was hooked!
There are a few interesting things… Getting to perform in L.A. At The legendary “Whisky a Go-Go” in 2014 for the L.A. Music Awards Nomination Party was very cool… Recording two albums with the great Ron Nevison as my producer has been a highlight for me as well. Also sharing the stage at home here in Ontario, Canada with Classic Rock bands like April Wine, Kim Mitchell, Glass Tiger and David Wilcox were very cool experiences as well.
I am always writing and creating new music. Hopefully by later this year or early next there will be some new songs ready to go. I just signed a new worldwide distribution deal for my music with MTS Records and MVD Distribution. Very cool and exciting!
My producer of the last two albums, Ron Nevison… Amazing producer and so many great stories of the Major Artists he has produced and worked with over his stellar career. Also had the pleasure of meeting Tommy Shaw of Styx/Damn Yankees earlier this year while in Florida. Ron and Tommy still remain very good friends as Ron worked with Tommy in Damn Yankees on those two albums.
I truly admire musicians and artists like Tom Petty, Bon Jovi, Tommy Shaw, Keith Urban, Bryan Adams and a few others for their long and storied carreers in this business. So I look up to them as inspiration, and hope I can enjoy a lengthy musical path as well!
I hope that my music resonates with as many people as possible on different levels… And I think music is a true healer in many ways, and I hope that my music touches home with the listeners and fans.
I think it would be try to help solve the Anxiety and Depression battles that many people suffer from out there including friends and family and just good people in general.
Try to achieve a healthy “Balance” between your career path and family. My Family is always number one… It is the foundation of everything I do, and it is truly important to me.
Tommy Shaw, Jon Bon Jovi, Keith Urban, Bryan Adams. How can our readers follow you on social media?
Thank you very much. It was a pleasure!
