Revolutionize Aging is not about being younger

Seriously, it isn't

So…

You were young once, and it was enough for you, right? You have no desire to go back. You just want to reap the rewards of being both healthy and experienced!

Of course, you did not anticipate that becoming older was going to be more than developing a wiser outlook on life.

You may not have known that living longer comes with its difficulties, like developing scars and painful memories, not to mention the build up of toxins in the body, and increased wear and tears. You didn’t think your body would feel heavy dragging your tired soul around.

This is why complaining and whining increased as you aged. It’s easy to blame the number of years you lived.

So what is Revolutionize Aging about?

It’s about rebelling against old ways of thinking. It’s time to change.

Revolutionize Aging is about celebrating today and moving forward. It is about defying the stereotypes of aging. It is about discovering new ways of being appreciative of who we are now.

Why?

Because we are living in interesting times. Although Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe have a low life expectancy, there are more people living longer today in the rest of the world.

A 2017 data source estimates that the largest population in Canada are men and women between the ages of 55 to 59. Furthermore, there are more people over 60 living in Canada ( over 8,568,000 ) than there are youths under the age of 19 ( over 7,932,000 ). And there is a prediction that by 2030 almost 25 percent of Canadians will be over 65.

For everyone, aging is a guarantee.

“If I’d known I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself.”

A rag-time composer and pianist, Eubie Blake said this at the age of 99.

Revolutionize Aging is a reminder that each day after the age of 30 our body is on a slow decline which increases as our age rises.

Revolutionize Aging understands that we ignore our bodies because life gets too busy, so I want to remind people of the health epidemics that exist in older adults that could be prevented.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, it is estimated that around 10 percent of cancers are hereditary which means 90 percent may be prevented. Cancer is the leading cause of deaths in Canada and is responsible for 30 percent of all deaths.

Here are some other preventable age related illnesses:

  1. Obesity which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
  2. Osteoporosis. The greatest change in a woman’s bone density comes in the five to seven years after menopause. More reason to watch food intake, avoid smoking and increase weight bearing exercises.
  3. Alzheimer and dementia.
  4. Diabetes

Older and vibrant?

Is it possible? Did you or do you have an aunt, uncle or a grandparent who lives a vigorous life? If so do you consider them rare and lucky? Perhaps a bit eccentric?

What if the majority of us could live this way? Revolutionize Aging is challenging everyone to make the choice to live a healthier life as the years pass. Instead of giving in to the collapsing stages ahead, courageously stand up to them by finding solutions.

Aging gracefully goes beyond the cosmetic effects of looking younger. It digs deeper into our cells, inside our blood vessels and within our changing minds. Aging gracefully is not a privilege only a few should experience. It’s a choice everyone has the right to encounter.

Conclusion

Revolutionize Aging is not about being younger. It is about accepting who we are first, then finding solutions to the aging problems we face. It is about using the solutions to regain more energy and vibrancy to continue enjoying what life offers us. It is about gaining the strength to face life’s challenges without being too dependent on others. We want to be secure enough to care for those we love.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
