Red Light, Green Light. Stay.

Being Still Amidst the Swirl of Chaos

Imagine yourself walking along now approaching an intersection where the crosswalk light is red. You stop, you’re waiting, you have places to be, people to see. More people gather. Energy builds, pressure mounts and tensions rise. Honk, frown, grumble, shrug….your mind wanders from beaches to beers to anywhere else. You wait, and you wait…finally the light turns green. You stay. Plant your feet, rest your bones, experience the rush of chaos around you while you remain still and quiet. Can you imagine it? Can you practice it? Where else would this story play out well in your life? Together, join me, we’ll practice and perfect our mastery over reaction as we move mindfully into response. Sit, relax and listen:

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
