Q&A: What You Need to Know About the Latest Nail and Health Trend

New Services Provides Detoxifying Pedicure Experience

New year, new you: this winter, it’s time to refresh your nail health habits. We sat down with Gerard Quiroga, owner of Bellacures Nail Salon which is pioneering an innovative new approach to nail care and Dr. Adam Nadelson of The IV Doc, to discuss:

Gerard Quiroga, Owner of Bellacures Nail Salon:
Bellacures always seems to be on top of trends and a leader in the space, creating exclusive, innovative services.  What made you create the Dr. Detox?

We definitely try!  We are always striving to offer our clients something unique that is also a fit in their beauty and wellness routines.  While people come to Bellacures to get pampered, we have noticed a bit of a shift where customers are really loving a full wellness experience that gives them additional benefits while getting their nails done.

With the Dr. Detox, we wanted to create a service to help people detox through the holiday season and into the New Year when things are busy, stressful and often filled with nights of over-indulging at holiday parties and social events.  The benefits of Activated Charcoal and IV therapy have been hot topics as of late.  We thought it would be interesting to combine these into a service that can help rid the body of unwanted substances, while simultaneously replenishing the body with essential electrolytes.

The Dr. Detox really came from the desire to offer customers a service that would make them feel better inside and out!

What are the benefits of using activated charcoal in beauty?

Activated Charcoal is a great natural cleanser and has the ability to draw out bacteria and toxins like a sponge.  We incorporated products enhanced with Activated Charcoal throughout the service, a soak, scrub and mask, to really cleanse and draw out impurities.  We also amplified the service with a Charcoal Detox Shot from Pressed Juicery to absorb toxins from the inside and get them out.

Why a detox pedicure as opposed to a manicure?

The soles of the feet have much larger pores than the rest of the body, so a pedicure was the most effective for increased absorption of the Activated Charcoal.  Between the pedicure and the IV drip from The IV Doc, customers are getting a truly detoxifying and revitalizing experience.

Dr. Adam Nadelson of The IV Doc
How does IV therapy benefit your body?

The primary benefit of treatments can be summed up in one word – balance. Our bodies our constantly striving to find peak physical and hormonal balance and our customized IV hydration with vitamins can provide a streamlined path to achieve that.

Hydration is also key to staying balanced and arguably the most important thing you can do for yourself (it takes a mere 1% of dehydration for observable sluggishness to set in). Our treatments provide immediate hydration and are supplemented with specific vitamin combinations to help ensure our patients reach their balanced state.

How does one feel after IV therapy?

If a person was feeling sick from the Flu or Food poisoning we routinely hear that they go from a 2 (out of 10) to a 9. People feel absolutely fantastic after we replace volume (i.e. IV fluid) when battling these ailments.

Why are the holidays a good time to detox/when is a good time to detox?

It is great to detox following the holiday season because of all the “celebrating” we tend to do. With a combo of alcohol use and poor eating — sometimes gluttonous — our bodies are hurting.  Usually, patients choose to do a detox treatment after a holiday party, or to refresh after this long tiresome holiday season.

What made you want to partner with Bellacures for this service?

Bellacures provides the same level of  professionalism and quality a luxury service should provide.  The environment at Bellacures is a wonderful relaxing oasis for our patients to detox and get a top of the line manicure and pedicure. These services together make the patient leave feeling refreshed and renewed from the inside out.
