1. What importance do you place on giving back to the community?
Giving back to the community is paramount in my mission as a spiritual leader. The Bible calls upon us to love our neighbor as ourselves. This means that everyone around us, whether or not they share our religious sensibilities, should be taken care of.
2. If someone wanted to begin giving back to the community but doesn't know where to start, what advice would you offer them?
I would first encourage them to seek out a need in their local area. Perhaps children need to be mentored. Perhaps there is a large homeless population that needs to be fed and sheltered. Join an existing community group to help these people.
When you feel more confident, you may want to start your own initiative to help your community. This requires the skill to be self-directed, organized, and persuasive.
3. What are the rewards of giving back to the community?
God will reward those who take up His mission to help the disadvantaged. Your reward may not be in this life, but it may be in the life that follows afterward. God will bless you for your kindness.
In this world, you will enjoy the sense of satisfaction that comes from making someone else happy and comfortable. You will be able to share the joy with fellow volunteers. The rewards far outweigh the time and care you will put into your project.
4. How would you encourage others to help you with your work?
Appeal to their humanity. When any person is suffering, empathetic people will be able to pick up on it. Not everyone has practiced their empathy, but it is a skill anyone can learn to master. Encourage your friends to join you in your fight to make the world a better place. There are no downsides to helping someone.
5. Is it important that business people take the time to volunteer?
Absolutely so. The more power a person has in the community, the more they are needed to lead others in volunteer work. It is understandable that busy people may not have much time to devote to a cause, but they can donate generously to worthy causes. Donations do not carry personal service with them, but there is a sacrifice inherent in them.
6. What would you say to a volunteer who is suffering from burnout?
I would tell them to step back and take a rest. God wants us to help others, but He understands that everyone needs time to rest and refresh themselves. When they are feeling more capable, they should return to volunteer work right away. Their dedication and kindness will help them lead the way.
