The fashion PR executive on his secret life hack.

When you have the opportunity to ask some of the most interesting people in the world about their lives, sometimes the most fascinating answers come from the simplest questions. The Thrive Questionnaire is an ongoing series that gives an intimate look inside the lives of some of the world’s most successful people.

Thrive Global: What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?
Pierre Rougier: Meditate.

TG: What gives you energy?
PR: Love.

TG: What’s your secret life hack?
PR: Remove all sounds and notifications from electronic devices.

TG: Name a book that changed your life.
PR: The Sleep Revolution (seriously!)

TG: Tell us about your relationship with your phone. Does it sleep with you?PR: Not anymore.

TG: How do you deal with email?
PR: Not in a healthy way. I can’t remove myself from it. Last frontier.

TG: You unexpectedly find 15 minutes in your day, what do you do with it?
PR: I squeeze in an extra 5 and meditate.

TG: When was the last time you felt burned out and why?
PR: I can’t remember.

TG: When was the last time you felt you failed and how did you overcome it?
PR: It will be 3 years ago in March and I since taught myself acceptance that we don’t have control over the destiny of those we love.

TG: Share a quote that you love and that gives you strength or peace.
PR: My grandmother used to say “Even the most beautiful woman in the world can only give what she has” (I swear it sounds better in French!). It sounded funny to me then, but the larger meaning of it actually makes sense now.

More recently: “It’s only 4 years… “

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
