When we speak from a holistic perspective, there’s plenty where we can choose from. Today, I want to tell you about a special choice, which is the Bursera Graveolens tree

Bursera Graveolens commonly know as Palo Santo, is a tree native of South America, mainly of Ecuador and Peru. It’s considered a sacred tree that offers various properties and benefits useful for energic stability and a healthy lifestyle, due to the fact that it’s rich in limonene, a great antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic.

But did you know that palo santo has been used for many, many years as ancestral medicine? That’s right, the benefits provided by aromatherapy products made from palo santo wood are currently a must by those who are looking for healthy natural products. Just by perceiving the citric and wooden aroma from an essential oil, incense or soap, you can feel yourself letting go off the stress and the bad energy that you’ve gathered through your day.

Each and every product is used in spiritual and healing rituals, as well as in aromatherapy. We can benefit from just having a 30 minute routine using essential oil from palo santo. One option is taking an aromatic bath, -I pour a few drops of essential oil in a corner of the bathtub and feel the aroma throughout the bath. Another option is a neck and back massage using the essential oil before bed, thus cleansing your body and mind from bad energy, it’s helpful so that any discomfort goes away quickly. It can even help having a better night’s sleep, and the best part is that it’s natural! Nevertheless, it’s important to acknowledge that all of these benefits are obtained only when the products made from palo santo come from a tree that has died naturally. This is very important to be aware.

The process to obtain aromatherapy products made from Bursera Graveolens Palo Santo is the result of hard and complex work. Where the respect to its cycle of life (30 years) is vital. Once it dies naturally, it must rest 2 to 4 years in its natural environment in order to get all of the properties it can offer us.

This is why we need to be mindful when purchasing aromatherapy products made of palo santo. Because of how popular it has become these last years, demand has increased enormously. There are places where the cycle of life of this sacred tree is not being respected, ending up not only with products of no good use but damaging the environment.

Same as with other natural products, it is very important to get supplied by reliable sources, which are commited with sustainability, which carry the project of reforestation, and respect to the environment and its natural resources.  This is the only way to enjoy for the long run the medicinal properties found in this sacred tree, Bursera Graveolens.
