Sean D. Tucker is considered by many to be one of the top solo aerobatic performers in the world and he lives his dream on a daily basis with passion. He performs at airshows across the United States every year and is founder of the non-profit Bob Hoover Academy. In addition, Tucker is the Chairman of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Program which introduces young boys and girls between the ages of 8 – 17 to the world of aviation by giving them a free airplane ride. Sean is always giving back to others with a genuine concern for inspiring them to reach their fullest potential.
I had the personal honor of interviewing Sean D. Tucker for my radio show and book. I am going to share a passage from my book, Millionaire Legacy, on how he was able to overcome his fear.
“Before Sean D. Tucker was able to achieve his reputation as an aerobatic pilot, he had a major challenge to overcome. Several years ago, he watched his friend die in a skydiving accident. After that, he developed a deep fear of flying and would panic at the controls of the airplane. At that point, Sean had a critical decision to make. He could walk away from his passion or he could embrace it directly. Sean decided to confront his fear head on and he took an aerobatic flight with Amelia Reid, a flight instructor and airshow performer at Reid – Hillview Airport in San Jose, California. When Amelia taught Sean how to safely perform maneuvers, he became an “aerobatic junkie.” From that moment on, he was able to release all of his anxiety and his fear completely disappeared.
Tucker’s dedication to pursue his dream was greater than any fear. Stop for a moment! If this worked for Sean, it can work for you. Realize that the majority of time our apprehension is blown out of proportion. When this happens, the first inclination is to run away and not look back. But, our perception at that point is not based in reality; we are simply controlled by anxiety. For this reason, maintain a realistic view of the fear you are facing and recognize that it can be discarded.
Tucker eloquently stated,
“For the first time, I acknowledged a huge fear and fell so in love what I was afraid of… I am going to acknowledge every fear. I am going to live my dream because I found out what really made me empowered was my passion.”
Sean continued to pursue his dream with determination and a focused mindset. His vibrational energy was centered on his goal and he took decisive steps in order to be triumphant.
Sean’s true motivational energy source is his concern for the spectators and his team members. Without a doubt, his passion for flying is deeper than any possible fear. While acknowledging that he has a dangerous profession, Sean D. Tucker continues to passionately live his dream on a daily basis.”
Here is a 3 step system for overcoming fear:
1. Don’t focus on fear, minimize it.
2. Visualize the bigger picture; your goal.
3. Decide on a plan and take action.
