If you are as pensive as I am, then you might struggle with overthinking. There are some awesome benefits of thinking a lot such as you will be more aware. However, there are also some major drawbacks. If you are constantly thinking, then that can easily lead you to be stressed out. Not only will it create unnecessary anxiety in your life, but you will also waste your time. Overthinking causes us to miss out on great opportunities and it stops us from having fun.  There is a quote that says, “overthinking corrupts the mind, destroys happiness and creates problems that never even existed in the first place.” Let’s attack this today.

Be more productive

One of the main reasons why people overthink so much is because they have so much free time. Instead of just sitting there with nothing to do, do something with all of your free time. Start a new hobby that will take your mind off of whatever is causing you to overthink. Start lifting weights or try a new video game. Do something that makes you happy. Volunteer work is another great option if you need a helpful way to be more productive. When your mind is focused on other people you will not have time to get lost in your thoughts. Start your calling your friends and your family members more often. Go around town and meet new people. There are so many ways that you can become more productive. Just make sure that you at least try one new way of being productive.

Stop dwelling on your issues

For some reason we like to remain focused on things. Wrestle with your thoughts. Change your mind to something more positive. I know that this is easier said than done. However, we must try our best to stop dwelling on thoughts especially on thoughts that we don’t desire. Just like anything in life. This is going to be a struggle in the beginning. However, with practice you will one day get better at not dwelling on your thoughts.

Pray

Whether you believe in the existence of God or not, evidence points to something higher than us out there. Many people have received healing and help from praying to God because their minds are focusing on Him and not their issues. I strongly recommend praying to God and getting to know Him. Pray that He keeps your mind on Him. Pray for peace and help in this area. In my own life I noticed that praying removed so much anxiety that I was struggling with.

Be thankful

Try to be more grateful for what you have. I’ve noticed that this really works. Being more thankful keeps you at easy. It gives you a joy that you never knew that you had. If we are always complaining, it’s hard to be thankful and it can easily lead to overthinking. However, when we look around at what we already possess even if it is not much, then there will be greater peace.

Bottom line

Don’t just say to yourself this is who I am, and I am always going to struggle with this. Try some of these tips today and receive some help for this struggle. Also, remember this. You are not alone. You have people fighting with you.

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
