In a fast paced world of traffic jams, long office hours, family activities and all of the other things we often cram into our days, we can at times feel overwhelmed. All of the demands that come at us from all directions can lead to a sense of stress and too much stress for too long can lead to burnout.

What if there was another way? What if you could have joy and ease with all that’s happening in your life? What if you could wake up every morning with a sense of gratitude for being alive and with an excitement for the adventure of living?

Stress and burnout don’t have to be your reality. Joy and ease are possible and a key to a life of joy and ease is choosing to nurture and care for your body. Your body is always there, contributing to you, taking care of you, making sure you get where you need to go and often times our response is judgment of how bad and wrong it is and the choice to ignore it completely.

Choosing nurture and care for your body rather than ignoring it will contribute to your life in dynamic ways.

Here are 3 things that you can do to nurture your body:

  1. Start Each Day with Gratitude for Your Body

When’s the last time you said, “Thank you” to your body? You can start today! Every morning, before you get out of bed, take a few minutes to acknowledge your body and say, “Thank you for taking care of me. Thank you for everything that you contribute to me. Thank you for all of the gifts you give to me.”

There are so many things that are body does for us every single day. The warmth of the sun on our skin, the smell of fresh flowers, the feeling of the sand on our toes when we walk on the beach, these are all things our bodies allow us to experience. Thank your body for these gifts. Start every day with gratitude.

2. Ask Your Body Questions

Most of us are not taught about our bodies. We learn the basics in school about how bodies function, but little information is given about actually having a connection with our body.

Typically, when something is off with our bodies, we look for the answer — the right answer. We read books and gather information. Based on this information, we try various things; diets, herbs and healing modalities, to mention a few. We can spend a lot of time and money and often experience little, if any, results.

Would you be willing to consider a slightly different perspective?

What if your body knows what it requires? What if you began to talk to your body and ask it questions? Body, what would you like to wear? What would you like to eat? What would be fun for you? What kind of movement would you like to do (exercise?) Who would you like to have sex with?

Here’s how this works. Let’s take clothes as an example. You walk into your closet. You ask your body, “What would you like to wear today? Something stands out. Go with that.

Communicating with your body is something you develop. Asking your body about everything that concerns it is extremely simple, but it’s as dynamic a change as learning a brand new language. It’s learning your body’s language.

You ask a question with words. Your body responds with energy. As you continue to ask, you begin to know the language of your body and what it’s saying becomes clear.

3. Daily Do Something Your Body Enjoys

What does your body love to do? Swim? Run? Maybe it’s Pilates or Yoga. Maybe it’s going for a walk in nature or taking a bubble bath. Take the time to do what your body likes to do. It’s easy to have the excuse that you are too busy or that there’s not enough time to care for you. Would you be willing to let that point of view go?

When you actively choose to daily do something that is fun and nurturing for you and your body, not only will you feel better; you will have more energy for the other things in your life. Make your body a priority.

Your body is an incredible gift. When you choose gratitude for your body rather than judgment, when you nurture and care for your body rather than ignore it, when you choose to ask your body questions rather than assume you know what it requires, your body will work WITH you and contribute to a greater life and living — one that is filled with joy and ease.
